Hello! I moved to Ontario about 3 years ago and I finally started my 24 gallon nano saltwater tank (aiming for a reef tank). My tank is located in my basement, so it'll keep cool in the summer, however I am worried my heater won't be able to keep up with winter temperatures. Right now I have...
Just set up a tank for cycling with live rock (yay!) and noticed one of my first denizens of the deep is a little aiptasia (boo!). So three questions:
I'd like to try the lemon juice approach, but I have "reconstituted lemon juice" and not concentrate. Is this good enough to use?
Do I...
Thanks for the information and advice! I wouldn't think about moving a clam physically in any case, but if he gets any bigger I might have to move the rock he's on so he can grow.
I assume it must've been there since I started the tank. Should I leave it where it is or move it to more optimal conditions, and where would that be? I have a royal gramma, yellow-tailed damsel, 6-line wrasse, an emerald and mystery crab, and CUC so I don't think anything would hurt it if it...
It's good to know that it's not a gorilla crab. I'm still going to try to catch it so I can try and get a positive ID on it with some better pictures, but it's nice to know that it's not an immediate threat.
As for the clam I circled it in the image. You can see the scalloped edge of it's...
Greetings all! I need help identifying these two creatures, please.
First one (top left) I believe to be a clam of some sort. When I shine a light on it it'll shoot back into the rock then very slowly come back out. It looks to have a mantle of some sort because the middle looks more...
I'm having trouble with barb bullying.
I've had 4 gold barbs in a 39 gallon tank for probably 3 or 4 years, and just these past few months 3 of them (now 2) have turned on the largest one.
The big guy is probably 2.5in while the others were around 2in. All of a sudden, like within a few...
It looks like it might actually be a stomatella snail. They have a flat shell, almost like a fingernail, on their back instead of a spiraled shell like most traditional snails. Stomatellas are good for the tank.
Corynactis or pseudocorynactis. Typically live in lower light than other anemones like underneath rocks and don't get very big. From what I've read most people don't know they have them until they're overturning rocks and just happen upon them. They can sting nearby corals like all anemones...
I cleaned the tank today and nuked the two I found before I saw this message. I thought I saw more of the things, but maybe my peppermint shrimp got to them (I've seen him eat aiptasia before). It anymore show up I'll give them a chance though!
I recently purchased a paly frag and on it were what looked to be aiptasia. I immediately nuked them with some Aiptasia X, but on a second round of the stuff I noticed the "anemones" look very similar to my GSP, albeit super tiny.
They're too small to take a photo of, but the discs are...
Yea, I read that most anemones are bleached too, and this LFS has some large RBTAs they've had for a while in the same tank so I know their water and lights must be good.
I ended up buying the crab and anemone (sexy shrimp was only available with a sebae anemone). The anemone immediately...
My lfs has a 2-3 inch RBTA and anemone crab combo for $55. The anemone is bleached but has bright pink tips and the crab is about an inch. Lfs closes in two hours and I won't be near it for a while.
Should I get these guys? Seems like a great deal and I'm willing to nurse the RBTA back to...
How about a flame angel? You got the red coloring with a dash of blue and liveaquaria.com says it gets to about 4" max. The site also says to add one in last when stocking the tank, and it's reef-safe with caution.
You will probably want a lid on the tank since most, if not all, wrasse are jumpers.
Great looking wrasse, though. Wish I could get one for my 24g to perhaps help with my flatworms, but they're very active and I heard they can nip at tubeworms.
Get rid of them. I'm not sure what the best way to get rid of them is, but I'm sure Google can help there. You will want to remove that rock asap, though.
Thanks for the info. I'll have to go buy some Flatworm eXit and extra carbon today.
I would take the rocks out, but the flatworms are on the glass and sand mostly. I wouldn't know what rock to take out, and because my tank is so small (24g) most of the rocks are load-bearing, so taking one...
