Biggest question in salt water hobby need help

I'd say plan for fish and corals. You have to start with fish anyway until your tank is fully established, maybe 6 or so months, then you decide at that time. I assure you'll want more than fish :-)

    Updated water

Are you really serious in taking advice from experienced aquarists from this forum? Sorry if I sound harsh but you already got good advice on your other post and it seams that you already made up your mind on how you want to start your saltwater aquarium. Good luck though.

Can someone Please help me w/ Lighting?!

I would recommend at least 10,000K for your lights for a reef tank. This is based on research and not per experience yet. My lights now are leds rated at 10,000K with mixture of blue actinics and a couple of T8's with 18,000K ratings. I have Long Tentacles Anemone, a Condy and Bubbletip Anemone...

    cloudy water????

The OP is actually having cloudy water. That cant be a result of bad test kit. I've read before that it could be a bacteria bloom. Bacterias resides in water so for immediate fix this would require lots of water changes. Still need to find the source though.

    Is this normal?

Are they always on the same spot? If it is, is that spot where you have the highest flow? If it is then they probably didnt like something from what you're putting in your tank for treatment. Make sure whatever chemical you are using doesnt have copper on it.

    Green Tint in Water

It's not adviceable to use tap water. You should use RO/DI or RO water at least.

    Cycling question

Where did you soaked your LR? In aquarium water?

Need to add shimmer to the tank.

Do you have some water surface agitation?

    Fluval or Marineland??

Go for the C-360. They're 100% filtration with no bypass and can be used as a reactor when you already have a sump. You may want to change the Activated Carbon with either Chemi Pure Elite or GFO while doing your initial set up.

    Canister Filter Question

Lol...lucky you... cleaning it is worse than doing an oil change...I just have to live with it right now and hopefully can setup a sump/ fuge early next year. My tank is still a FOWLR and will gradually upgrade to a reef by january next year.

    Fluval or Marineland??

If your planning to upgrade to a bigger tank with sump/fuge combo, I would recommend the Marineland C-360. It is designed for a full filtration with no bypass. With this, you can still use it as a "Reactor" with 3 trays abailable for whatever media you want to use to match up with your sump/fuge...

    Milky/cloudy water

Is your skimmer working well? I can imagine your skimmer getting crazy with all this cloudiness. Do you have filter sock in your sump's inlet?

    Tank problem (water?)

If your nitrates and phosphates are low, one source of algae issues is your lighting. Old bulbs radiates more to the red side of the light spectrum which is what algae needs to photosynthesize. Check or replace your bulbs and make sure its rated not less than 10,000K. Good luck :-)

    Canister Filter Question

Oh...I thought you knew coz you suggested to replace my media with live rocks :-)

    Canister Filter Question

What I'm going to do is get 1 or 2 rocks that are already in the tank, crush them to small pieces, put them in a small tray and let them sit in the the tank for a month or so then to the change. Now, how small should its piece be approx?

    Canister Filter Question

It has ceramics in the top tray, bioballs in the middle and activated carbon in the bottom. I'm planning on replacing the activated carbon with Chemi Pure Elite and now thinking of putting crumbled live rocks in the near future. Oh btw my filter is Marineland C-360. My lfs suggested replacing...

    Tank upgrade!! 8-)

+1 on Nu-Nu's way. :-) Since you still have your old tank to enjoy, I dont think you need to rush on your new tank. You dont want to be scratching your head a couple of weeks after trying to figure out what went wrong. Just my 2 cts.
