    Fluval Edge V Reef Build

Yea, I probably won't have any fish in there at all. I'd like to do a zoanthid and mushroom garden....so far that's kind of what I'm thinking about. I've tried to post pictures of my progress but the app is saying my upload quota is reached??? Anybody know how to fix that??

    Fluval Edge V Reef Build

Hello folks! Its been about 3 years since I've set up a true nano tank but decided to take the plunge and get back into it today. I had a Fluval 5 gallon I wasn't using for much so I grabbed some aragonite, about 5 lbs of live rock and some pre-mixed saltwater. Luckily I found an extra powerhead...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Trimmed a lot of the wisteria out of my tank today while doing a water change. It was starting to block off the light to my sword plant behind it. Haven't decided on a foreground plant yet but I'm leaning towards using dwarf hair grass - I think it would make an interesting addition that should...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Haha I know it! Gives a whole new meaning to "grows like a weed". I'm doing a water change Tom so I may snip some of it back. I've been doing a little research on some carpeting plants for the foreground area. I'll report back when I've decided on something! Sent from my iPad using Aquarium...

    first planted shrimp tank ?'s

This would be a cool setup. For best results I would use some kind of water column fertilizer like API's Leafzone or Flourish Excel. I personally wouldn't invest in a full blown C02 system for a tank of this size but I've had good luck using liquid C02 additives in small tanks and that will fill...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Well I finally got around to adding some permanent residents to the tank! I've added 1 Endler's livebearer and 1 lyre tail guppy. Both are males and get along swimmingly! ? they will join the Otocinclus cat I've already had in there. My plants are continuing to grow. I am thinking about adding...

Fluval Spec beginner / Critiques Welcomed

@Caliban07 That's a great looking setup! I really like those swords you've got on either side. How many gallons is that? Anyways, I'm gona keep following this thread! These little Fluval tanks make great planted nano aquariums. Will be fun watching yours grow! Sent from my iPad using...

Controlling algae in a fluval spec

Right off I'd say your bio load in that tank is too high. This could be providing excess nutrients like phosphates which will cause algae problems. Also, I've used a liquid C02 additive which will improve plant growth and cut down algae growth at the same time. Sent from my iPad using...

Fluval Spec beginner / Critiques Welcomed

I myself started up a Fluval Spec V about 4 months ago and am really enjoying it so far! Your off to a good start it looks like. The plant on the log is an Anubias variety and will grow well under the stock lighting. I've got Anubias, Wisteria, and Amazon swords in my tank and all 3 have grown...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

You guys can ignore these pictures I'm posting - I'm just kinda trying to document the progress of the tank by using pictures of the plant growth. One question I do have.... I believe I'm ready to try and add a couple small fish. I've got 1 Otocinclus in there now to help with algea control...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Well thankfully the wisteria is taking off in my tank. I don't know that I've done anything special, although it really seemed to start growing when I started using API's C02 Booster. Next week, I'm going to add some crypts and possibly some hairgrass to the foreground areas. But first, I've got...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

I've been enjoying good plant growth especially with the Wisteria during the last couple weeks. Starting to get a bit of algae growth so I have added a couple Otocinclus to combat the algea. Thinking about possibly adding a few neon tetras to have some mid-dwelling fish in there. Sent from my...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Well the tank has been up and running now for a couple of weeks. Got the angelfish out of there and added another Anubis. No fish currently but enjoying starting to see the plants take off. I've added API root tabs and C02 booster to help aid plant growth. Here's a couple pics! Sent from my...

    Algaeeeee

I guess what I meant is that algae can't stand carbon in higher doses. I dose liquid carbon in my tank and never have issues with algae. Flourish excel after all is a liquid carbon additive. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Algaeeeee

I would do a water test and see what kind of nitrates your measuring at. I would bet there pretty high. I agree with what's been stated about doing big water changes....this will help lower some of those levels. I'd look into dosing some liquid carbon if it's a small tank and you don't want to...

    Algaeeeee

Wow that's quite a lot of algae. For that much algae to grow your tank is either getting too much light or you have too many nutrients in the water. What's your lighting setup? Do you dose anything in the tank? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Yes I've already got plans for the angelfish. He will be going to a friend of mine that has a 90 gallon community tank. Originally I had wanted to just keep this tank as a planted tank without any fish. However, if I do decide to introduce some fish for a long term period what species would...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Well I just added a baby angelfish that I was given from a breeder I know. This will be the only fish I keep in it until he outgrows this tank and then I'll move him into a larger aquarium. I have a question for anyone with experience regarding API's liquid C02 additive.....has anyone used...

Ok cool that's some good info, thanks! I did go out this evening and find me a small piece of driftwood for a centerpiece and also added some Anubias and Wisteria. Well I've gotten everything setup now. I've got 1 and a half inches of Flora-max so far but I'm thinking about adding another half inch. I've got my Amazon swords added and later today I'll be adding Wisteria and Anubias Nana. I'm got to begin my search for a driftwood centerpiece also since I'm...

New Fluval Spec V Planted Build

Hello all, It's been about 3 years since I've had an aquarium setup so I'm very excited to begin this build. I've got a small corner in my house that will be perfect for a planted tank. After some research, I settled on the Fluval Spec V for my tank. I liked this tank due to the all-in-one...
