    Adding new items to tank...

First of all......coral, inverts, clams, shrimp do not carry ich so there is no relationship between you introducing new frags into the tank and your fish getting ich. What could have happened is that when you introduced the frags to your tank the tanks parameters changed violently and the fish...

help noob do it right the second time

A sump could certainly help you out and you could add LR to it for additional filteration. Depending on how complicated you want to get with the sump, you can make a simple sump from a rubbermaid container for less then 10 dollars. An alternative woud be to get a 10 gallon glass tank and make...

help noob do it right the second time

I don't know the details of your previous setup so I will just make some general statements that I hope will help you. 1. Start out very slow...many people use scrimp from the supermarket to cycle their tanks instead of live fish. Do yourself a big favor and make sure the tank is fully cycled...

Ever had a problem with external application of a mag drive?

They don't leak usually. I've had a mag running for about 7 years and I never had a problem. I don't think you are dealing with a defective pump, it sounds like the previous owner damaged it while cleaning it or possibly tightened the cover screws to much and cracked it. Mag drives are great...

    rio pump

I personally have never had a problem with RIO pumps, but most everyone on the board will say RIO's are crap and break alot. I would recommend a mag drive to replace your RIO. You will have to do some research as to what size will be best. I would look at the MAG 7 or 9.5.

    X-10 automation and reef tanks

Done that already :)......big difference in the Pro software, but I initially planned on writing my own software to interface with the controller. I may still do that if the Active Pro doesn't do what I want. I write software for a living so not a big deal. I've read quite a bit of posts on...

    X-10 automation and reef tanks

I've heard and read so many different stories since the thought of using x10 came into my mind. Yesterday I placed an order for the ActiveHome Pro system and following that did some more research and everything I read said that ActiveHome was the worst system out there and their customer...

    X-10 automation and reef tanks

That would be cool! However at this point I'm going to keep it simple and just worry about the wave maker and lighting functionality. I need somebody to chime in with info about the firecracker interface for x-10 modules. And if they are reliable. Thanks,

    X-10 automation and reef tanks

Does anybody use X-10 to control their tank? I am checking out the firecracker interface on X-10.com and I am considering buying it to control powerheads like a wave maker and also my lights. If I do this I am going to build my own software for it. Anybody have any good experience with this...

What is my problem here? UPDATE!!! NEW INFO!!!!

Well, I don't know what happened, but I have a similar story. I purchased a royal gramma and he was doing great for a few months. Then I just lost him????? I never found a trace of his death and my water perameters are very good as well. I have a crab that lurks around in the rocks and I...

Live Rock curing - is this possible?

It's absolutely possible. When I started my tank I purchased very good LR, I didn't assume it was cured, but I never had an ammonia spike or even traces of ammonia.

    ASM G1X skimmer

I have an ASM GX1 and when I first fired it up for a few days I had microbubbles, but after about a week or so they went away. I do get microbubbles when I add anything to the tank, food, supplements, my hand. They usually last for about an hour and then they are gone. I have the sponge on...

What are the benefits of a "True Union" Ball Valve

That is exactly it. They are smaller than having 2 separate unions and then the ball valve. The size is pretty compact. Is it worth the price, well I guess that would depend on how much space you have to work with. JIMO

    Fish won't eat nori.

I had a hard time getting my yellow tank to eat sea weed selects from the veggie clip. I changed and secured it to a piece of rock on the sand bed and now he goes crazy when I put it in the tank.

Help! My toadstool leather is developing a hole

Hi All, I am very worried about my toadstool leather. I thought he was very healthy, but a few weeks ago I notice a hole developing in the center of its canopy. Is it splitting? or is this something I should be worried about? [/img]

    Rearranging LR

I wouldn't move anything. My Tang does the same thing he comes out to swim and eat and as soon as somebody looks at the tank he quickly retreats back to his hide out. If he seems happy, then don't mess with the environment he has already adapted to. If you move the LR around chances are he'll...

    Florida Beaches

In Panama City Beach there is a place called Shell Island located in the bay. I went on a jet ski tour there 2 years ago and there were hermit crab all over the shallow areas. They were underwater so I think they would be okay in a tank.

    Causes of low cal.

perhaps your test kit is inaccurate. Take a sample to the LFS and see what reading they get. CAL should drop that much in a days time. Coral consume calcium over time, but not overnight.

    Whats going on?

Sometimes coraline with fade away in certain spots, but come back even stronger. What are your water parameters? What do you dose?

Corals open just some of the time?

I would say it should be the other way around. Your corals should be open most of time and closed some of the time. Leathers close and shed skin called sloughing you should have enough current that it will remove that excess sloughed skin. If you leathers are closed more then their open I...

    What Happened??

Are you 100% sure it wasn't an aptasia anemone? They have the ability to suck themselves back into the rock if they get freightened. Aptasia are not a good thing and can be quite a nuisence if not erradicated from your tank.
