    Echinodorus ozelot care

Ok great thanks. I looking for plants that feed from the water column really. They need to be easy to care for as I'm not terribly green fingered.

    Echinodorus ozelot care

Hey I'm thinking of getting a Echinodorus ozelot but am pretty inexperienced with this plant. I don't want it to grow too huge. I was wondering whether it has to be fed fertiliser via the substrate. Will it still grow with out extra food?

    Water test

Just an aside regarding API tests. Make sure you don't get too much shadow when you hold the tube up to the card. This is particularly troublesome with the nitrate test as the reds are hard to distinguish against. Hold the tube slightly away from the card in a well lit room.

    ph level

My pH is at 8.2 and always stays that way, even in my tank. I do have driftwood but our water is so hard so I'm guessing this doesnt even touch the pH. I would much rather keep the pH as it is. I have never added anything and never would. My fish are fine and definitely benefit from very slow...

    Turn off Filter When Feeding?

I keep mine running normally, the guppies like to chase the flakes. I do turn it off, or reduce the flow if I want to feed my rams something specific like bloodworms or smaller pellets I tend to turn it off as it makes placing the food for them easier. It also makes it easier to see where all...

    purple fish!?!

Emperor tetra tend to be purple-ish.

How do you measure your fish?

Sure if can be wrong, but its not like its going to be metres out. I have a good idea what an inch looks like close to or far away from an aquarium.

    Amazonian frogbit?

I am thinking of getting some Amazonian Frogbit but having trouble finding it in several of my LFS. Does anyone know of a good place to get this from in the UK? I am based in London. Cheers

Excellent sites there...thanks a lot for those. Especially tropica.com

Who makes the best spiriluna/veggie flake

Try em all! Whatever your fish like best. Mine get NLS cichlid pellets as well as bloodworm so a varied diet so I don't rely on flakes too heavily.

Who makes the best spiriluna/veggie flake

Hikari also do some very good flakes. Always go down well with mine.

Should I get a Blue Ram?

Get Bolivians. IMO they are less finicky and actually have a lot more character/more willing to greet you. They are like dogs. GBRs seem more like cats :) Maybe it's just mine but the have great colour and I personally prefer their more subtle colour.

    What is this fish?

Hard to tell as a bit blurry but probably either a siamese algae eater or a Chinese algae eater.

    Hardening and softening the water

I have a very similar problem with hard water and high pH. From my experience there are more than just discus and tetra that don't adapt we'll and certainly don't live up to their full life expectancy, whether farm bred or not. It's important to try and find fish suitable to your water rather...

    Nitrate API test

Of course, add what you like but if it was me I would try and find the cause before finding the solution. Just a thought. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

    Nitrate API test

Before you start adding stuff just check your tap water. If that is the source then maybe try something chemical but if it is over stocking then it might just be a matter of upping your water changes.

    Nitrate API test

Definitely test you tap water. Some people say plants don't lower it that much so would be good to work out where these nitrates are actually coming from, whether bioload or your tap.

    Filtering with peat.

Where I live we have crazy heavy water. Also a pH of 8.2. I have just purchased my first fluval 206 and am considering adding peat to get both the hardness and pH down. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this? Is there a special "aquarium" peat to use? Are the changes it creates stable and...

    Nitrate API test

I have had the same problem recently, started a thread on here so check that out for a few more responses. It is really hard top tell the difference between 40 and 80 on the API test. My tap water contains c. 40-50ppm nitrate which is really annoying. Currently trying out some new plants to...

    Pregnant platy

Well I believe that normal gestation period for a platy is somewhere between 28 and 32 days. It's always had to give an exact eta as it is hard to know exactly when she was impregnated unless you have CCTV on her. She looks a little way off yet...not fit to burst. With mine I normally find that...

    API nitrate test

Just a little update. Nitrates with API are still showing as red, however seems to be a deep orange red rather than scarlet. I'm guessing the plants, which ave stared rooting vigorously, are beginning to draw some nitrates out.

    API nitrate test

Like this comparison game!!! Bit like train spotting haha. Miyavp we have the same Lot . Nitrate 1: 17A0212 02/17 Nitrate 2: 18A0312 03/17

    API nitrate test

It is beginning to remind me of a chemistry lesson! I will be running a couple more tests today so will post any observations. I think it may be too early to tell whether the water wisteria is making any kind of dent in the NO3 but we shall see. Am also considering some frogbit. My filter is a...

    API nitrate test

It's annoying that our tap water is so crap. Ad yea I have had java moss in the past but get fed up with the stuff never staying attached as it should. Am always jealous of people who grow this and it always looks so amazing!
