    are my tanks level enough?

I've got 5 tanks and only one of them is what I would consider "perfectly level". The others seem to be off a tiny bit and the bubble on the level is always between the black bars in the middle, but may be barely touching one of the bars every now and then. Also, the tanks are all more level...

    manufacturers of big tanks?

I'm trying to figure out where people get these big aquariums that are larger than the 210 (72X24X29). Do All Glass, Perfecto, or Oceanic make tanks bigger than the 210? I keep seeing these 7-ft and 8-ft tanks that look like production line stuff (at least from the pics). I know glasscages...

    fish native to Phillipines....

I have a friend that I'm setting a tank up for. He wants fish native to the Phillipines as his wife is from there. I need to know of tropical freshwater fish that are native to the Phillipines and would be suitable for a 29 gallon tank. Thanks.

    60" light fixture

I have found a 60" light fixture for my 60", 100 gallon aquarium. It is made by Perfecto. Am I gonna have a hard time finding the T-10 lights for that fixture?

    Clown Loach Fighting....

I'm not sure they do. I hear clicking-type sounds at feeding time but I can't be sure that it is clicking or them just eating food near the surface and making popping/clicking type noises.

    Clown Loach Fighting....

My angelicus loaches "dance-fight" a lot. It is really a fun thing to watch. I have 3 of them and they change "dancing" partners. I've seen similar "dance-fighting" with Yo Yos, zebras and clown loaches.

    my fish room smells, suggestions?

Good suggestions all. I'm gonna go with baking soda until I get a dehumidifier. I may get a small fan. I changed the water and it helped some, but I change the water a good bit. I know I overfeed in my 2 grow-out tanks, but I change the water in them 2X a week too. The room is a small one...

    my fish room smells, suggestions?

Could be! They really don't work out much though.

I may try that too fishy! Thanks.

    my fish room smells, suggestions?

I do 40% water changes every 3-4 days on 2 tanks and every 7-10 days on 2 tanks. I don't run carbon though, which I know could be an issue with odor. The room isn't well ventilated either, nor can ventilation be improved. I guess carbon is as good a shot as any. I just don't use it much...

Rena XP3 Canister Filtter vs. Marineland Magnum 350 Pro

My XP3 works great. There are many more things you can do with an XP3 media-wise than you can with a Magnum 350. I use a HOT Magnum 250 for polishing water on my tanks and it serves that purpose well, as would the 350 except it isn't as portable as the 250. The XP3 is very quiet too, and easy...

    Clown Loach Fighting....

I've never known clown loaches to hurt each other. Mostly playful nipping. The folks at loachesonline might have a better answer. They have helped me with loach-specific questions in the past.

    my fish room smells, suggestions?

Sometimes my fish room gets a little gamey. Anyone have any tips for keeping smells to a minimum? I mean, it doesn't reak or anything, just smells a little stale.

    Noisy Aqua Clear 50. Help.

I'd screw the impeller/motor assembly off and make sure everything is seated well. Basically what sudz said. I've got 6 AC filters of different sizes and all mine are quiet. If the impeller gets off though it may rattle, or it could have some gravel or a piece of loose plastic or something...

    looking for true SAE

Lately I have been ordering fish from many places that do mail order. I've found that for the most part the fish arrive in good shape. I just can't find the quality I'm looking for at the lfs. My lfs is also in denial about the ich problem they continue to nurture.

Anyone tried Sera or Dainichi foods?

I feed my Malawi cichlids NLS everyday. I know most everyone really likes NLS and for good reason, it seems to produce the best results and is a quality food. I just like to explore other possibilities and I like checking out other brands. I've seen some info in magazines and on the web about...

I wonder which pleco is best. I've been eyeing an albino bristlenose.

    plecos really cleaned-up!

I never had cared much for plecos but lately I've become a fan. Everyone has said how good at cleaning a tank they can be so I put some to the test by putting 2 in a 29 gallon holding tank that had that brown algae growing on the sides and bottom. Within 24 hours, these guys have the surfaces...

    Blue Jack Dempsey

I know about the hardiness so I'm ordering 6-8 juveniles. It's gonna cost $$$! If I end up with too many I'll sell some of them. A 5" one will go for $70-100. I'm really not so much interested in breeding as I am having an impressive show tank with fish that are not only beautiful, but...

    Blue Jack Dempsey

I'm sold on blue dempseys now. I've talked to several people including those that have sold and kept them for years. I may keep 2 - 4 in a well-filtered 55 gallon tank. According to those I've spoken to, the less aggressive blue JD will do fine if kept with others of it's own kind. Like keeping...

    prefilter sponge question

I use pool filter sand and the intake is about 3" from the substrate. I like having intakes at different levels. Plus, cichlids spit sand all over the place.

    cycling with septic tank products

I wondered about that. The anaerobic nature of the bacteria that are required to break down septage would not work well in an aerobic environment. Anyway, here are some threads from the cichlid-forum.com that address the subject. It seems many have had good success with this strategy, so far...

    prefilter sponge question

The problem is that I sometimes don't think I'm getting enough of the gunk out. By pulling it out backwards I may be getting a little more stuff. The tank is a 100 gallon Hap/Peacock tank that has 12 half grown fish in it. I try not to overfeed and I never see a piece of food hit the bottom...
