    Molly with a growth?

Okay, new development - all the fins on her belly are frayed and look about half the length they were. What the heck is going on? She seems so sad :(

    Molly with a growth?

The lump itself looks like a tumor, but the caked stuff around it looks like frayed cotton. Do you think it advisable to remove her from the tank?

    Molly with a growth?

1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.). One of my two adult calico mollies seems to have some sort of fungus or growth on her belly fins (sorry, dunno exact terms). She's...

Hey there everyone! question re: filters

My tank is doing pretty well at this point. I've lost a couple, gained a couple, but all in all the majority of the group is doing fantastically. I have made one major change - I moved the feeder to a smaller tank. I was suspecting (based on his eating habits of pushing the other fish out of...

Just can't cut the ammonia... argh!

Yeah, back in the beginning it tested at zero. Strange, isn't it? Well, I'll keep on top of the PWCs and let ya know if anything significant happens.

Just can't cut the ammonia... argh!

Hey there! Been busy with life-stuff... lining up a job, working on my website, enrolling my girl in preschool, blah blah blah :) My tap is zero for ammonia, and I use the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals testing sets. I'm staying on top of the PWCs. I stopped by my LFS and talked to that guy...

Just can't cut the ammonia... argh!

I've been feeding them up to 3 times a day (small amounts each time) because when I got the Pandas, they were still getting used to the tank and not coming out to eat fast enough before the rest of the tank ate all the food. I'm down to twice daily, still smaller amounts. I do feed enough for...

Just can't cut the ammonia... argh!

Hey all! I am still reading higher ammonia levels and I'm not quite sure what to do about it. They seem to be between .5 and 1.5 ppm (usually around 1, the 1.5 was only once) and if it's as high as 1 I do a 30-40% PWC. I typically do this every 2 to 3 days. I have never shown a Nitrite...

New Jersey? Where do you get your fish/supplies?

They are in Denville, and yes, he has SW fish. If you give me a highway to start from, I can give you very good directions.

    How to make algae...?

I think I had read here once that you can cultivate your own algae by putting some rocks in a container of water and leaving them alone for a while. I have a little bit of brown algae that is being cleaned up by my pleco, so I wanted to treat him (her?) to a fresh batch every now and then. Is...

New Jersey? Where do you get your fish/supplies?

I'm in the dead center of north jersey, and my fish guy is at Lil Critters - he's always given me fantastic advice and none of the fish I've bought from him have had any problems at all. If you need help finding him, email me at mg(at)moxiegrrrl(dot)com. More than happy to give directions...

    Heater glass cracked and broke???

That must have been it - leaving it plugged in while doing PWCs - I thought they automatically shut off when that happened, but I guess I was wrong. My bad. Oh well, it wasn't so expensive that I should cry over it. Ordered a Jager from Big Al's and will be sure to unplug it next time I do a...

    Calling 30-55 gal tank owners

My signature has the fish in my tank - it's a peaceful community, and the cories add a little action when they get revved up and swim the length of the tank a few times. The dwarf gouramis add a calm gracefulness (make sure you don't get aggressive gouramis, the dwarves I have are quite happy...

    Heater glass cracked and broke???

Hi hi everyone! Discovered that my Visi-Therm submersible heater has apparently been slowly cracking over the past few weeks - I had been hearing an odd noise, what sounded like piece of glass tapping once on another piece of glass, every so often from the direction of the tank. I never saw...

    Question about goldfish

Yeah, plastic plants. Is there anything I can do without removing them all?

Start of a New Tank Diary

Pretty well settled, thanks TomK2 :) The babies are doing really well - four mollies. I don't think the swordtail made it, but you never know. I still have to watch the ammonia level, but PWCs keep it under control. Everyone seems pretty content :D

    Question about goldfish

Everything is going really well with the new tank - all the fish are still alive, and the four molly fry that appeared within a few days of introducing the new group are getting bigger every day. I believe the swordtail fry has been eaten, since I haven't seen it since I caught a glimpse of it...

Start of a New Tank Diary

2 cories added, happy as can be. Tankmates have no beef with them. They do go a little crazy and "blitz" for a few moments - swim like mad. Then they find a nice little spot to relax in. Also spotted the first swordtail baby this evening - all orange with a little spot of black on the tail...

Cycling with Bio-Spira: how long until readings?

I used Bio-Spira myself and had zero readings for a long while. I'm still not totally sure it worked, because my first batch of fish died, but I believe the fish were ill when I got them, so I can't blame Bio-Spira. Good luck!

Start of a New Tank Diary

Thanks guys! I knew it had been a few days - I've been in the office this week, so not been at home to watch over the little critters throughout the day like I had been. But yeah, everything seems to be ok. I may have vacuumed too much gravel when I did a PWC over the weekend, so I think I...
