    Ammonia 0 Nitrates 0 Nitrites 0 Ph 7.8 Temp 78 It grows in a tree branch shape. Guessing some type of algae? Idk though it's strange looking and I have never seen anything like it.

    I'd use a brush, sponge would break off on the rock and then you would have to pick the bits off.

    Concrete bits would be what you want to do but the hammer drill would probably cause fault lines in the rock to break and the rock would crumble.

    Probably cyano bacteria bloom. Test your water and give us your parameters. You can look on live aquaria for info on fish look at the sw beginners link.

    Wouldn't the dead things in the rock provide enough ammonia?

    Just like cycling a tank the curing process can vary. Only by testing the water can you determine when it is done. Seeding would probably help speed up the process.

    Rubbermaid container, saltwater, heater, and powerhead. Watch the levels water change as needed. Unless its a new tank them just put it in and let the die off cycle the tank
