Wow just read a thread online about pH reducers affecting phosphate levels. I just checked mine and the levels are through the roof! Am going to water change a huge amount and stop using pH down. I think I'll just leave the pH at what ever it sits at naturally.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention that the pH eventually rises to 8.12 once in the tank. Takes a few days though.

Just did a little test and added enough of this pH Down to a small jug of water to bring the pH down to 5.30 and strangely the dKH went way up to 16. This is not what I expected.

I realise PH goes down over night but the peak pH isn't even close to where I want it. I want it siting around 8.2. Do you have corals? I did think maybe I'm just being too fussy about the pH and that it could be okay to get some corals.

Over the past few days I've noticed a bit of scum on the surface of the water so I bought a fluval surface skimmer seeing as I'm not using a protein skimmer. The surface skimmer is really good and cleaned it up within 30 mins. Good purchase.

Thanks heaps. Yeah he didn't like the increase in ph when I started using the kalk so I've moved him to the QT. I'm gonna have to give him away :(
