Yeah, I'm back again after 7 years....

Welcome back. I just recently bought an IM 25 Lagoon about 2 1/2 months ago. Running a single AI Prime as lighting, and love it. I did pick the Prime over the Kessil, as the AI Prime had more of what I was looking for. If you aren’t doing that many fish you will love it. My warning is this: and...

    55 gal setup

Also, posted was a FOWLR, that’s why I suggested a Falco. As they are very curious creatures. I’ve always had luck with having all Semi-aggressive fish together. When you start dipping into aggressive only, that’s where mixes are interesting.

    55 gal setup

My LFS. For some reason, they are high on some fish, normal on most, and for some reason really low on others. A Scopas Tang goes for $25 at mine. Not the most colorful of Tangs, but very hardy and very active swimmer.

    Light upgrade

I have the AI Prime for my Coral. I just started, but they are more than enough, and for the price worth every penny. For a 48 you would need two Primes.

    Can i use these rocks?

I agree with Sniperhank. First, if you have a 65 gallon, you want some decent size rocks. Unless you have a really big jar, sounds more like rubble. One of the most expensive thing in this hobby is Rocks for our aquariums. Paying for rocks by the pound is not cheap. But I will add, it is the...

    55 gal setup

As for equipment, yes I would eventually get rid of the canister filter. In the mean time, ensure you are not using a glass life for your tank. Skimmer, definitely a HOB Reef Octopus. The classic with the motor outside is prefect. A powerhead, will be a must as a Canister filter will not be...

    55 gal setup

With a 55 gallon, and on a budget, I would avoid any aggressive fish and do at the most semi-aggressive. If I was stocking another 55 again, I would do: 1. Clown(false ocellaris) with an Anemone 2. A Sand Sifting Goby(options very wide) maybe a Pink Spotted or Dragon Goby 3. A Tang...

Do i need a protein skimmer?

Hi Cichlid! As for a protein Skimmer or no protein Skimmer. When I set up my 25 Gallon Lagoon, most advice was that I wouldn’t need it, and that water changes would be all that I need. As I respect everyone’s opinions, because in this hobby “to each their own”. This was my mindset, at first I...

    Aggressive Flame Angel

Pecking orders are never fun to watch. Brings anxiety. Rearrange the rocks, but be careful. And the fins should heal back very quickly. The Damsel Family can take a beating and heal fast.

    Pistol shrimp

I have one, they hide fast and make their homes even faster. He’s under a rock. Where you find the Goby hiding is h same place you’ll find him, you just won’t see him as often. Rarely will come out as the Goby will feed him. Weird Symbiotic relationship. Lol

    Moving

I’ve moved two larger tanks, only took about half a day to move both. Seeing Your’s is only 20G, that should be a cake walk. I agree with Sniperhank, and buckets should be fine. If it was larger I’d recommend Brute plastic trash cans. Just make sure your buckets don’t sit in heated areas too...

Adding old sand into new aquarium?

In my opinion, old sand in an establish tank is great. Two things I ALWAYS do when starting a new tank: I ALWAYS seed it with some sand from one of my established tanks. Also I’ll do a premature water change in an established tank to use that water to seed it as well. I personally feel this is a...

    New Tank

Personally, as most of us get setting up new tanks or first getting into the hobby, you are going a mile a minute. What I usually do when I’m about to set up a tank, I first right whether it will be an aggressive tank, a community tank or a reef tank. Then I list my must-haves. With your list...

Need help putting a CUC together

As we all go through this, mostly during the early stages of setting up tanks. I would suggest monitor how much you are feeding. Is all the food isn’t gone after a few minutes, it’s too much. You might need to cut back how long your lights are on. Usually excessive algae is quick to fix.

    Blue hippo qt

In my opinion, it should be OK for no more than a week. Long term I foresee issues. Some of My LFS have them in 10’s, but the expectation is they are only there for a few days before being sold. How big is the tank it’s going in for long term? They need room.

    Friends tank(algae problem)

I think I need to go to his house and check the tank, lights, filter, etc. myself. An find out the source. I never have a problem with any of my tanks.

    Friends tank(algae problem)

Thanks for the reply. He has eliminated the light times as a possibility. He uses only RO/DI water. I asked about phosphate he said no. Next time I talk to him I will ask. About what his clean up crew consists of.

    Condy anemone?????

Question is: I have a community tank and a aggressive tank. The condy anemone is getting too big, and the aggressive tank is bigger. Can I put the condy anemone in with aggressive fish?
