    Breeding?

I remove the females if they are holding and put them in their own tank. Once the eggs and then wrigglers become free swimming I remove her. There will be a time when the fry are out on their own most of the time and then I pull her. Fry can be removed from her by gently holding her and gently...

    EBJD

Try aquabid.com under the Central American section. There are few sellers there. You can see the actual fish and their feedback. Other sites may use stock photos that are not the fish they are selling. With EBJD's you want to see the fish first before you buy.

    Electric bleu jack dempsey

Aquabid. Look under Central Americans. There are few up for sale now. Like I said look @ the photos and feedback. At least it gives you an option. Some sites sell using a stock photo so your not seeing the actual fish. If there is a local cichlid club by you I would look into that as well. That...

    Electric bleu jack dempsey

I can tell by your post you really want to try your hand @ raising blues. I think you need to take a step back and plan a little. I think if you order from the same source and keep them in a ten gallon you will have the same results. Lets say you keep up on the water changes. Eventually you have...

    Electric bleu jack dempsey

In my experience I could not tell when young. I had regular jd's in with mine and they paired off. I can sex a jd quite easily. My female blue had a more rounded body, kind of bullet shaped, and was much smaller than my male. I can't say that is the norm though. Seems to be more males out there...

    Electric bleu jack dempsey

A few things that worked for me. Keep your blues the dominant fish in the tank. Maintain your water. The smaller the tank the harder on you. 2 blues would do fine in a 29 until they reach a few inches. A 4 foot tank would obviously be better. Feed a variety of food just don't overfeed. Smaller...

    advice needed

Are they moving ie: wiggling? Do they resemble a tiny worm? Is so then it is planaria. It is not harmful. They appear when you have an abundance of left over food that settles in the substrate. Some fish eat them. More water changes with vacuuming the substrate and feeding less will help. Again...

    Powerhead placement

Depends on what your trying to achieve. Where you want the movement of water there goes the powerhead.

Any pool supply store. I have Lighthouse Pools by me.

    Sand

My preference is pool filter sand. I have tried play sand. Pool sand in my opinion rinses and clears better. When I tried play sand it took so many rinsings and it did not clear very well. I have pool sand in all my tanks. I do have egg crate but only in one tank. That tank had breeding jags who...

    Sick Oscar

Garlic helps entice the fish to eat. I do not believe it kills parasites. In my opinion a salt bath ( the whole process) is stressful to the fish. If Oscar is eating and you keep up on the water changes you should be fine.

    Sick Oscar

I would do a large water change. Half the tank. I would continue to do 20% changes daily for a few more days. Then keep on a schedule of water changes. The smaller the tank the more frequent changes you'll have to do. Good luck.

    geophagus tank mates?

I have a 125 South American species tank. I keep Jurapari, Altifrons, Brasiliensis, Chocolates and a severum. Largest fish now is 7". I have pairs and trios. It is a peaceful tank. When they hit full size I do have other tanks if needed to make room. I would look into a pair of any of these for...

    geophagus tank mates?

What is your substrate? Geos like to sift sand. If you have gravel then I would look into severums as mentioned. If you have sand or are switching to it then your options are many. Just keep in mind adult size as your tank size will limit you.

    Non-aggressive Oscar needs non-aggressive tankmate(s)!

Why not try another South American cichlid. Jurapari, severum, chocolate to name a few. Pick something that will get a little size to it and try it out. I have mine with a festae and they get along well. Oscar is 10" and the festae around 7". Good luck.

    Oscar with convicts

It will work. If the convicts are a " pair" and when they decide to spawn , then you could have a little drama. I am sure your Oscar will let you know.

    Electric blue Jack dempsey Cichlid

There are two sites to visit. Allthingsdempsey and Bluejax will give you load of information. Maximum size will vary. I have a 5 year old male who is only 8 inches. A good size tank would be a 75 gallon. I have kept blues with many different Centrals. Convicts, Texas, nics, vieja, cubans to...
