Angel Fish lying flat at the top

I noticed my Angel Fish lost its appetite a week and a half ago. Yesterday I noticed it floating horizontal at the top barely moving. I did a 70% water change and my water parameters are 0.25 ammonia. 0 nitrate and 20 nitrate. It's a relatively new tank 5 weeks old. I'm in the process of cycling...

Test results done, am I ready for fish?

The liquid that Im using is called: Water Ager CN (Instant Chlorine, Chloramine, Ammonia & Heavy Metals Neutralizer + Slime Coat) I just tested again and my results are as follows: Ammonia 0.25 - 0.50 (I think it's closer to 0.25 but the colours are so close together it's hard to tell)...

Test results done, am I ready for fish?

Thankyou everyone for your input. Sorry yes I made a mistake on my figures it was 0.25 - 0.50 of ammonia and I have 0.25 of ammonia in my tap water which I remove with a liquid.

Test results done, am I ready for fish?

I've tested my water every second day now since adding my fish and the parameters are the same: Ammonia 0.25 to 5.0 Nitrite & nitrate 0 PH 8.8 -- Should I be worried? Have I not yet started to cycle or have I finished?? Last night I did a 70% water change, gravel, glass and filter clean (...

    Angel skimming the surface

My angel has been skimming the surface water. Looks like he's been cleaning the film of it. Is this normal behavior? Is he hungry maybe?

Test results done, am I ready for fish?

It's a 55g (202 liter) 4 ft tank. I was thinking of trading my male convicts anyways, that will stop the multiplying at least. I might wait to do that until I've finished cycling.

How much fish food do I give?

Yeah I think so too since the angel only eats what is floating so he gets only a couple of sprinkles that fall from the surface. How do u tell if they are overfed?

How much fish food do I give?

I have small pellets ( not sure of brand since I just recently acquired these fish from a previous owner. I'm new to this too). I've been giving them a small sprinkling of less than a 1/4 of a teaspoon. They seem to eat it all and if there are left overs they find it. I feed them ever 2nd day...

Is there a hose for water changes?

Is it a special type? I've got the standard one which I have to suck in air to get the water moving. This works when taking it out because the water is traveling down. It won't go the other way no matter how much pressure I use.

Is there a hose for water changes?

Do people use hoses when refilling their tanks after a water change? Carrying buckets is heavy labour!

Blue water after adding conditioning salt

I'm from Australia, so maybe it's common here? I bought it from a fairly decent aquarium only shop so I assume they know if its recommended or not.

Does my filter suit my tank size?

I have 4 mature convicts which seem to only fight with one another. And my parrot is the largest and is probably the most aggressive. He (i think) usually wins in fights. I doubt that will happen since they have been together for quite some time (handed to me by the previous owner).

Test results done, am I ready for fish?

I've got about: - 15 convicts (5 babies) - a parrot - a gourami - a angel - a bristle nose catfish Yes, I'm ensuring the water is changed everyday. Problem is, I have 0.25 ammonia in my tap water. So effectively I'm adding ammonia each time I change the water aren't I (declorinated & conditioned)?

Test results done, am I ready for fish?

--- I tested for Nitrites and Nitrates in my tap water and they were both 0. 24hr after the fish were in: Ammonia was at 0.25-0.50. Nitrite 0. Nitrate 5.0. So I should be changing 25% of my water everyday? So I'm definitely doing a fish in cycle? :( *sigh*

Does my filter suit my tank size?

I'm from Australia so Amazon won't deliver here. I read that the fluvals leak around the seal...is this just as common with other brands? Has anyone had a leak with there's?

    Tank layout suggestions

Thanks for your advice. I did try moving the rocks to the left, but it looked unbalanced when there wasn't anything else in there. Should I buy a large piece of wood and balance it out on the right or another rock feature? Love that pic of your tank librarygirl, looks great! So you only have 2...

Does my filter suit my tank size?

Thanks for your suggestions? Are the cheaper ones just as easy to find replacement parts? I don't know much about the stuff you put in them also. It seams that you need a few things like sponges and foam or something...? Does one particular thing suit certain fish?

Test results done, am I ready for fish?

I tested my tap water ammonia and got a 0.25 reading. My PH was 7. I didn't test nitrite and nitrates (I forgot). However, after visiting my LFS they tested my water and said that it should be fine to put the fish in. They are all in, and seem ok. I changed 25% of the water. I tested for ammonia...

Blue water after adding conditioning salt

Is it normal that my conditioning salt turns my water blue? Is that safe for the fish? I was told to add 2 tsp to each bucket that I refill when doing a water change.
