    Hurricane Dennis

Hurricanes might seem fun for me since my dad is such a hurricane freak. He bought a $25,000 generator to run the house and sandbags the property line and it looks just like a bunker! But the problem is that all my friends come over and constantly mess with the fish tank... I can't tell you how...

So tempted, im here and i want it

if i was to use sand and live rocks from the bahamas (abaco island, treasure cay), would i have to clean and filter them out? Dont worry, its from a dead, crushed reef because of the hurricanes. Thanx -Trent

A glass cover would be more versitlie, but if the hood is cheaper in the end, than go for it

Is there any other clownfish I can keep with a false perc?

uhhhhhh, thats not gonna be good. I would agree that re-arranging the lr would help reduce its territoiality. So i would suggest getting a slightly larger false perc so they might be able to become a mated pair.

Should i go for a sump

For a long time, I have gotten everything as HOB and it was good. But now that i am almost done buying all my equipment, the labirynth of the skimmer, filter, uv sterilizer, power cords, power heads, and soon to be a phosban reactor is getting rediculous! But I only have a 29 gal tank, and no...

    skimmer

it might ba a bad skimmer, but if you set it to instantly go to the collection cup, you are setting it too high. Sometimes skimmers need a few days to get going on a cycle. And the manufacturer should have a book with the line foam should constantly be at, because the bubbles don't always have...

    water change or not??

water changes will only slow down the cycle and eliminate vital bacteria. And you could buy a ph conditioner (i'm not sure, but i think Kent Marine makes them)

First timer needs help to start off well

lighting can get quite expensive with metal halides on our scale (since i have a 29 too :D ) and you might have to end up getting a chiller. I have 2 75 watt compact flourescent/actinic lights since just actinic makes the tank a dark blue color (which you might like). for most corals i agree at...

    First time Uv sterilzer q's

yes, it is a turbo twist, so it will work for 30, but i was confused as to the issue that is you set it to low flow (for parasites) at 75 gph, will that also work for my serious suspended algea problems.

    What is this? Anemone?

Frogspawn also looks more shiny, bubbly, and thicker. I thought it was that at first too, but the smaller, flatter structure shows its inner mushroom

the lfs only sells as low as 9 watt

    Ick? (pics)

and if you have shrimps or unsecured corals or other inverts, you might want to remove them since they are intolerant of copper based meds.

    First time Uv sterilzer q's

So im gettin a uv soon to kill off suspended algea (and hopefully a phosban reactor too, but thats later) and i have a 30 gal tank. I want to kill of the algea quickly so the lfs told me to keep the uv on high, but didnt know what the gph of flow should be. Also, my tank stays at 80 - 81 degrees...

What creature do you find the most appealing?

I like my o clown cause it does a backflip out of the water for no reason once the lights go off, kinda wierd tho :?

    Mangroves in a Refugium?

I never knew that! Our neighborhood is so wierd that we had a law passed allowing us to trim and prevent our mangroves from reproducing. So i pick tens of thousands of seeds every season and always thought they were just about useless. So we toss them in the chipper and end up spreding mulch for...

    Nano-Cube Stocking Ideas

I dont have one, but i do have a smaller 29 gal. tank. I do want one though. I think maybe a pair of o clowns. Or something more colorful like a clown goby and a firefish. If you arent going to stock it much, get a really big carpet anemone. Although little corals would be nice though. Also take...

    Wierd algea of death HELP!

on a side note: btw, nooooooooooo, not sps corals! So is 5 wpg too low, i do wish to have some of them. I did eventually want cup coral, horn coral, acropora blue, and stylophora eventually. I probably cant get any more lights. Are these out of the question?

    Wierd algea of death HELP!

I add coral trace elements and i feed enough to cover the fishes' eyes twice a day (although i was feeding much more than that at the beggining of the algea three days ago). I feed 40 drops of Kent Micro-Vert, and also add calcium. every day i wait for it to clear up, and its still green. im...

    Wierd algea of death HELP!

ok, my computer's being a dil, and i cant get to the link. So how much does this phosphate pump cost. Is it a type of filter media? And just out of curiosity, which corals need more than 5 wpg, because ill have to steer away from them. Im still new with the coral thing thanx -Trent

    Wierd algea of death HELP!

btw, all water parameters are fine except for phosphate so i guess the new question is, is that too much lighting, which is 5 watts per gallon
