is there a certain rule of thumb when picking an air pump for a sponger filter? like when picking a filter you generally wanna turn the water over X amount of times per hour, does it kinda work the same with this? a certain cu.in/min of air flow?

I am looking at setting up a 10g fry tank for my African cichlids so that when the time comes I have somewhere to put them. I am just wondering if anyone can recommend an airpump that is relatively quiet and reliable that I can use for the sponge filter in this tank.

Is there enough spirulina in that type of food then that there is no need to suplement them with it with flakes?

What are some of the best foods to feed them? I have read alot that you should feed them a variety of foods, is a couple ok or should it be more? How often should you feed them and how much per feeding?

Just for viewing pleasure yes. I have in some cheap pinkish coloured bulbs that came with the tank but I ordered 2 50/50 bulbs instead. Nothing nigh powered they are just standard T8 fluorescents.

How many hours each day should the lights be on in an African Cichlid tank?

How many fish is safe to add at a time max in order to make sure I don't crash my bio filter?

Does anyone know of any Canadian Online breeders/shippers for African cichlids? I know there are some good American ones but they either don't ship to Canada or they charge a fortune.

But after a water change how is CC any better than chemical buffer? With CC the pH will drop and then gradually work it's way back up, with chemical you can add it as you add the water so your pH really wouldn't change right?

if i use products like the seachem buffers and stuff, is there any point using CC?

I have had people tell me to use crushed coral instead of additives to buffer my tank because it keeps it more stable, but wouldnt additives keep it more stable? say i have CC, i do a 30% water change so i add my tap water which drops the pH in my tank. The CC isnt going to bring it back up...

I have no problem replacing the red zebra as out of the 4 they are my least favourite anyways. My problem is I need to pick a 4th species not only from what I like but from what why LFS have. I can post a list of what they have if that would help.

Is it the general consensus that Acei need a 75g tank minimum and cannot be kept in a 55g?

i love Acei, they are prob one of my favourite cichlids, im just not sure i want to put them in a 55g for fear that its to small. If I were to put them in my tank though, what am I best having them replace from my list?
