It's taken a couple of weeks, but I am happy to say the algae is pretty much banished! How did I do it, just a daily water change and substrate cleaning regime. The best of it is the fish have really brightened up too!

Here's my setup, been running for three years now, had a recent nitrate/algae fight but I think I'm winning! I'm going to add a bit more ocean rock and some LED lighting but I'm pretty pleased with it!

Hey all I'm a fairly experienced tropical aquarium guy, been fishkeeping for 10-15 years. I currently have a modest malawi set-up. I guess I'm here to run ideas past some of you and hopefully share my experience too!
