The head came off so clean, I had a feeling it was a natural thing. The water parameters are not ideal (nitrates pretty high - around 40 ppm) but everything in the tank is doing pretty well, anyway. I'll just leave the tube in place and monitor. Thanks for the tips, folks. Matt

They seem to be working something out. The FF still goes through rapid changes but seems to always cycle back to apparent "relaxed" condition. I'll attach a couple of photos. In the first one, you can see the FF and the Tang swimming in the same side of the tank in relative ease. Although...
