40ppm is OK don't lose any sleep over it. Sometime I'll get lazy and do a WC every other week n @ that point my nitrates are almost @100ppm with no ill effects

You can lower it with driftwood. Or if you plan on doing co2 that will also lower it

The old watt/per gallon rule is outdated. But for a 2 ft tall tank if you want high light and co suffering live carpeting you're gonna need something that can give u good lumens @24". And since you dont want to spend much, go with a metal halide light.

Ditto on the air stone. Theyll be fine. You will probably experience a micro bacteria bloom thatll cloud up the water for a bit but thats usually expected when changing things out.

Since I got a 2 foot tall tank im thinking an algae cleaner would make my life easier. I just can't decide which 1. The 2 I'm looking @ is the algaefree hammerhead cleaner or the mag float 360A. Other then the price difference, does any1 have any personal experiences with these 2?

Pretty much what every1 is saying. Do a water the day of or the day b4 u leave turn the lights off set up feeder and ull be alright. make sure the feeder is set up correctly. When I first got mine it took a week to fine tune how much food to drop.

When I was curing my DW it leeched for over a month. It was a big piece though, 3+ footer so I ghetto rigged a tub out of some cinder blocks and plastic and changed the water couple times a week. Also added 99%+ salt crystals for water softener, kills any bacteria on the DW, 50lb bag was $4 @...

He's not talking about leaks, he's saying if your water level isn't constant in your tank due to evaporation, one of the holes can end up above the water surface and squirt all your water out the tank. Not a problem if you keep your water constant by topping it off or if you have an ATO unit.

What's your stock in what size tank? If you have a high bio load replace the carbon with more bio rings. Or you can just replace it with poly fill and call it a day. Purigen is a lil pricey, but worth it since it can be used over n over. But a big bag of poly fill costs like $3 will last forever...

You want to dose till you hit 4ppm ammonia. So throw in a teaspoon, let is sit for 10 minutes, and use api fw test kit where you sitting @ if not @4 dose a lil more, if over 4 take out some water and replace with fresh water.
