There is MTS in the tank - I inherited some on a piece of bogwood I got from a cycled tank. Must be about 10 altogether.

Hi Peeps, I am still doing my fishless cycle - 4 weeks in and almost done. I have noticed some small worm like creatures swimming around in my water! The look like white stringy worms and they float about - they are about 1cm long and float around - they then wiggle about a lot for a few...

Getting close now - nitrite is almost readable again and nitrate is on the increase! Over 4 weeks cycling so far but starting to see the finish line in the distance!

Done one 90% water change results not changed much - guess I will have to do another at the weekend.

So no real change for a few days - is this normal? Today's readings: Ph: 7.8 Ammonia: 0.25 Nitrite: Off Scale Nitrate: 20ppm Any advice? PWC? Keep dosing to 4ppm? Thanks

I have an air stone and have set the pump to disrupt the surface water - hopefully that should cover it!

Thanks Hobgob - I will do the change when I start eliminating ammonia in 24hrs - hopefully that will be over the coming days! I'm away for 48 hours over the weekend, any advice on what to do with the tank? Do I dose up before I leave to keep the bacteria fed?

Ok let's all take a look at today's results :) Last night I dosed up to 4ppm Ph: 7.8 Ammonia: 0.25 Nitrite: well off scale 5ppm++++ Nitrate: 5ppm I'm guessing I should dose up to 4ppm again?? Thanks to all who have helped :)

Thanks librarygirl - I am using the API Kit so will make sure everything is followed closely today :)

Been doing some research and from what I can gather - all is normal. I think my first tests were a false start (with regard the nitrate reading). It seems I'm cycling - just slower than I thought. I have dosed the ammonia back up to 4ppm and will test again tomorrow.

Strange results from tonight..... Dosed up to 4ppm ammonia last night Ph - 8.0 Ammonia - 2.0ppm Nitrite - over 5.0ppm Nitrate - 0ppm Not sure what this is telling me and not sure why my nitrates have disappeared!?
