I have 3 angels (all female) and 2 dwarf gourami in a 46... One of my angels is a beast who has killed and eaten otos. I periodically move decor around to help break up territories and that keeps any aggression down. I still have the occasional Chase but they have lived together for about a year.

I thought about larger fish, but hubby feels its a waste for only a few small fish. (I've always wanted an Oscar ). I will need to order online or travel 4 hours for most of the fish (regardless of what I pick). I am limited to only chain stores locally who carry a basic stock.

I've used the net and hated it. It hooks on to the side (not easy with a cover). The parts to hang are flimsy. I found the hard plastic ones much easier to use.

Eventually both puffers will need to be in brackish but I'm really not sure you want to keep them together. The 40 gallon is minimal tank size for both these fish at the moment. They may look small but they are messy. I really think the black could be from stress. Just keep a close eye on them.
