    New Construction - Built-in Tank

Hmm, the new house has an in-ground sprinkler system. So, I rig up the outflow to drain into a storage tank of some sort, and then plumb the sprinkler system to pull from the reservoir. Hurdles, hurdles...

    New Construction - Built-in Tank

TankGirl, please do if you think that'd be more appropriate. :D Thanks for all the input, you've all given me some great leads! We don't close for a couple months yet, so we do have time to figure some of this out. I'm going to check and see what my LFSs do.

    New Construction - Built-in Tank

Y'all are supposed to be shooting this down as ridiculous. To hit on a couple points - I like the cement block idea. I'm handy enough with studwork, but that seems like the way to go. I refer to sound transmission as kids playing in the family room directly above the wall we plan on using...

    New Construction - Built-in Tank

Greetings all, We're in the process of buying a new house with a large basement that we'll be finishing immediately for an amusement room. Several walls will be shared with a storage or utility area, and a built-in 125 gallon cichlid tank would certainly be plenty cool! We'll plan on...

Best loaches to get for "Rid-a-Snail"?

I second Yo-Yo (Pakistani) loaches. They stay small and will crush your snail population. Keep at least three since they can't get enough of each others company. Mine sleep together, chase each other around the tank, sometimes I swear they're trying to hug each other. Mine also adjusted to...

Need to get some ideas for inventory of my friend's LFS...

In addition to the comments on carrying and labeling plecs, make certain that if you have the ability to place special orders for the more unusual and harder to find fish, that you have a highly visible sign informing your customers.

    29 gallon roster

Just a quick update to anyone searching on this topic.. I bought 2 small yo-yo loaches and my (young) red-tail black shark has really taken a liking to them. He doesn't hang in his cave nearly so much and seems to get a kick out of prowling (& defending) the bottom with these guys.

    29 gallon roster

Thanks Stewie, the female shark gets to 6" fully grown, the males slightly less.

    29 gallon roster

My son's 29 gallon tank is just coming out of its cycle, and I'm planning a roster of fish for it. The tank has tall broad-leaf silk plants in the corners of the tank and plenty of hiding places and caves on the gravel bottom. I'm thinking: 8 tiger barbs 1 red tail black shark 3 yo-yo loaches...

    sick tiger barb?

Thanks QTOFFER, flipped a coin on which forum to post it to  Update: He's still swimming just fine, eating well and his coloration is great, he's not exhibiting any signs of stress. The spot is still there, it's almost like those scales turned white. When I get a good head-on look...

    sick tiger barb?

Sure, I can QT him easy enough. It's a 29 gallon tank. I understand that at a pH of 8.4, nearly any amount of ammonia is toxic to the fish hence the reason for my water changes (not touching gravel). I'd love to hear that this is incorrect. I've been searching for some bio-spira, none of my...

    sick tiger barb?

Hi all, the tank is still cycling, water parameters are: NH3: .33 NO2: 0 NO3: 10 pH: 8.4 This white blotch started last night and now looks as in the picture. He ate fine this morning and isn't quite as active as his tankmates (3 other tiger barbs) though he's still cruising the tank when...

    Calling all subwoofer owners!

Hi Rhetor, 600 continuous, 1000 dynamic; it reaches down to 23 hz. I run floor-standing towers for all three front speakers, so I have the crossover set to bring the mains and center pretty deep, and let the sub do the real heavy lifting. I decided to choose a different location than the game...

    Calling all subwoofer owners!

Tie 'em to some clay pigeons? Seriously though, thanks for all the replies. We're leaning toward a swordtail - tiger barb tank, with some cories and red tail black shark. I've read the 'constant noise' theory before in multiple forums, so I think there's something to that. Drax...

    Calling all subwoofer owners!

Kukerdan, this isn't an electronics boast thing, but a powered 15" sub is the largest mass-produced subwoofer class manufactured for home theater. The throw on such a sub dwarfs a 10", even if it's a long-throw model. It also reaches much deeper, and the resulting sound waves are...

    Calling all subwoofer owners!

Thanks Youronlysin, that's certainly encouraging to hear. My bass sits directly under the screen (not ideal but that's more of an avs-forum thing) so the corners aren't as 'live' as they could be. I think the least vibration would be on the same wall as the sub, and the added benefit would be...

    Calling all subwoofer owners!

Well, it is a 15" sub! Even at low volume it vibrates the floor above during explosions and etc. We have a 90" diagonal screen, so the volume does get turned up proportionally for movies. No worry about foosballs though, we're all decent players. If the consensus is the floor...

    Calling all subwoofer owners!

Greetings, I'm contemplating locations for a 29gallon FW tank. My wife and I prefer the game room in our house, which houses a full blown home theater with 15" subwoofer, foosball table, dart board, and various other noise-generating activies that are in fair use during the weekends. The...
