So this is the skimmer that came with the sump i bought. Its a terrible picture, sorry, but i'm trying to get it cleaned up a little. There is no name on it or any kind of numbers to identify what it is. Any time i try to test it in the system water just comes out the holes in the top of the cup

I couldn't find any of the pure ammonia anywhere, i really wanted to try that way!

Tested the water today; high range ph - 8.2 ammonia - 8.0 nitrite - 5.0 nitrate - 10 or 20, hard to tell this stupid decaying shrimp is stinking up my whole apartment!

When i first plugged it in, water would come out the top. I stared messing with hoses and got it to stop overflowing, but then the water would make a chugging noise. I guess i dont even know what it is supposed to do, i was just told i needed one and it came with my sump.

Tank update: had an issue with my overflow being really loud, turns out i had the drains turned the wrong way. Got those flipped around and now everything is super quiet! Still trying to figure out this skimmer. I have no idea how it works. But i think im ready to start cycling! I only have base...

Okok what am i doing wrong?! I've never used a skimmer before and when i plug this one in it brings water inside and then overflows out the top! There is no name or anything that i can see either so i cant look anything up online

Tank has been filled up a few days now, running fine until sunday evening i noticed some moisture inside the bottom black frame piece. Cleaned it up and siliconed the bulkhead that i found had a tiny leak. Thought everything was alright but now keep finding salt creep and a little moisture...

Well, filled it up the rest of the way today! Doesn't seem to be any leaks with any of the pipes which I am so thankful for! The drains into the sump are super loud though, going to pickup some other fittings so i can extend the pipe further into the sump to hopefully quiet the water noise. The...

How long do I need to wait for silicone to dry? And what part of my sump does the heater go in? I'm getting nervous to fill this tank up, what if it doesn't work, i've never had a sump before, i'm really worried i did it wrong for some reason...

I appreciate the help, but I actually just got the tank in place and got it almost half full! Just waiting on the overflow box to get here hopefully Tuesday and the more live rock and sand this weekend.

Thanks! Do you know anything about the airline tube that is supposed to stick out of one of the three pipes though? Do I just drill a hole and stick the tube in there? Overflow box has been in pre-shipment for 2 days now, ugh!

Update: just ordered the overflow box. Hopefully it will be here by the end of the week.

Started plumbing tonight, made the mistake of gluing pipes together and then trying to attach to the tank. Wont work with the middle one because it screws on. Back to the hardware tomorrow to buy replacement pieces and hopefully will be able to finish tomorrow night.
