Bettas love to hide. The same thing to one I had along time ago. We helped him out of the tight spot. But, a few days later we found him in the same spot.... Dead. So, make sure he can't get back in because he will try. Mine was also eating and seemed fine. I think he probably just got stuck...

I have platies who were at the end of there lives who kinda died that way. They were around 2 years old.

I have read that danios can be aggressive. So that could be the problem.

One question... Are his scales protruding from his body? In other words does he look like a pine cone? If so he has dropsy. Well sword tails are related to platies and I have heard that platies do better with a little aquarium salt. I personally do not do that with my platies and they breed like crazy. Hope this helps.

About the thing with the barbs. I have heard that barbs can be really mean to a lot of fish including platies. Platies are naturally docile and are easily pushed around.

I agree with Brennae. I sold some of my platies, the day after I posted them on Craigslist someone called and took them. I did charge a small fee so, it was worth it.
