What kind of starfishes are these?

They aren't an issue unless they get crazy, at one point I had about 100 in my 150. I had some that were eating zoa polyps on frags I had, they never went after the colonies but they would hit my frags pretty good. I got a single harlequin shrimp and he cleared them up in about 2 months. I still...

    Need fish to keep cycle?

I've been asked about putting a tank in at a business, they saw my tank at work and want something similar in their lobby. Something low maintenance. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Would a tank without any fish and only coral be able to sustain enough bb to keep the tank cycled? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Blue linkia sea star with mantis shrimp?

Your right I missed the "after the cycle" part of the post above mine. I should read better. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Blue linkia sea star with mantis shrimp?

Personally I'd skip using a live fish to cycle and get a raw shrimp. No need to put a fish through a cycle. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Mandarin setup

Both my mandarins eat frozen and pellets in addition to eating pods which are always plentiful in my 150 gallon reef. Not so "impossible" at all. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

First salt tank (Peacock mantis shrimp)

The tds meter will tell you how good it is. I'd get a di resin single stage from brs and use it with the filter and see what tds you get. If it's zero your good, if it's higher or your blowing through the di resin really fast you can replace the aquamedic with other parts from brs to get it to...

First salt tank (Peacock mantis shrimp)

I'd use a dual input inline tds meter, one probe before the di resin and one after. That'll give you a reading to see when you need to replace your ro membrane and the meter after will give you the output reading which should be as close to 0 as possible. Check out bulkreefsupply, they have...

First salt tank (Peacock mantis shrimp)

Yes to the di addition, also I'd look at putting a tds meter in the system. Many issues can be resolved or never occur at all with proper water to start with. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Nitrate help...I'm about to cry!!!

Also you said you had the skimmer wide open? You need to restrict the flow somewhat to get the foam up to the correct levels. That is why the skimate is collecting in the neck and not in the cup. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Vacuum sump?

You can also use a length of PVC pipe and a funnel. Put the PVC in down to the bottom and then slowly pour the sand in the top. Works really well. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Worried about purple tang

I have a 4" hippo and added a 2" purple tang to my 160. There was some initial dominance by the hippo but after a day or so they were calm. It's been 6 months and all is well. I figure I have about another year or so and the hippo will get donated to a local aquarium.

    Saltwater nerites

I've gotten macro algae, fighting conchs, and hermits from them as well as extra shells. Everything I've ever gotten has been amazing, the extra shells were so nice I actual kept 2 out of the tank and have them displayed with some other shells in a display case.

    Saltwater nerites

If your looking for snails no one has better stock than reefcleaners.com, they are the best.

    Saltwater nerites

They bury in the sand during the day an then come out and climb in the evening, I think nassarius snails sift more.

    Saltwater nerites

I've had nerites breed in my tank, it's been over a year since I added any snails and I have around 15 that are smaller than the ones I put in. Ceriths too.

    Best starfish for coral

I was un-aware that linkias are considered not reef safe, why do you say that?

    ReefCleaners

What size tank can support that many hermits?!
  23. J

    ReefCleaners

If you want hermits i would reccommend blue leg and Halloween, they are colorful and grow slowly so it isn't too much trouble having extra shells for them. I'd stay away from thin stripe, they grow like crazy.

    The best dry rock company?

I had no phosphate issues in either tank I used BRS in. One is over a year old and the other tank is about 5 months.
