    My pond build thread

The roots will travel to the path of least resistance. As long as you have water in the pond the roots will grow around it.

    Move to pond

I never understood why anybody would want to cover up a beautiful natural looking pond with anything (net, chicken wire, wood etc). I use a ScareCrow Motion-Activated Animal Deterrent...

    Protein skimming:Wet or Dry

I skim to the point that I empty the cup just once a week. Would love to skim more wet but not always at home to empty that cup. May modify the cup to empty through a tube and drain.

    Aquarium room nursery.

The only way to get my daughter to stop crying and go to sleep was to rock her near the aquarium.

    Overflow box and return question?

You can go larger on the gph overflow up until the point that the siphon cannot be maintained because too much water is draining too fast but the overflow would have to be severely over sized for this to happen.

    Overflow box and return question?

If you can match the output to the overflow then it will work plus you have the option to tweak it if need be. I find that the rating on overflow boxes are actually higher than what is advertised.

I found this photo from 6 months back. It is larger now.

    Hammer Coral divide

I believe it is a branching coral as it has about 4 heads. Do I just cut the skeleton and split and avoid cutting any of the flesh ?

    Hammer Coral divide

Hello, is it possible to cut my large hammer coral with a dremel tool into two smaller pieces without killing it ? It's growing like crazy and looks too big for a 40 gallon.

    Electrical

WaterWatcher Detects Water Leaks You only need one. I just added an extra two wires in parallel to the existing sensor and ran it to the top of my display. It's actually not a water detector but wires that detect changes in resistance when wet.

    Electrical

I use a water detector that will shutoff the power to my pump. One sensor is on the floor behind the tank and the other sensor is just above the water line in my display to stop the water before it can spill on the floor.

    when to change fuge bulb?

Which probably means you are doing a good job keeping the bad stuff out of your tank. Have you visited Ripley's aquarium yet in Toronto ??

    BRIGHT green algea?

Cut the feeding to every 2 or 3 days and you will be fine especially with the addition of a skimmer. Probably no need to go to 3 hours of lighting.

    Skimmers!!!

I put a Red Sea Prizm Hang-on Protein Skimmer in the first stage of my sump. Reviews are not very good for this skimmer but with a small simple modification it pulls enough junk out that I'm cleaning the container at least every week as I run it very wet. For less than $100 and the sleek...

    Zoas

I have a 36 bow too and use the 120 W dimmable LED's. They are more than enough and you will need to slowly ramp up the wattage to get the coral acclimated.

    Clownfish acting strange

Mine do this when the moon lights come on (blue only) and they think it is time to go to sleep I guess.

    New LED lights

I had to turn down both whites and blues because my corals were bleaching. Even the blue that didn't look bright to the eye was powerful enough to bleach.
