Thanks, the nitrites and nitrates have been off the charts for 9 days, even with a 50% water change every day. I just tried a 80 to 90% water change so we will see if that helps. The ammonia does go to near zero every 24 hrs after dosing to 4-5.

Its a SeaClear Acrylic 40 Gallon tank. Dimensions: 36"L x 15"W x 16"H Capacity: 40 gallons I set it up a month ago but with glass substrate. For various reasons I couldn't get it to cycle. I re set it up with a gravel substrate yesterday.

Starting over with new gravel instead of glass. Added a couple of pounds from the fish tank at the local aquarium store. Day 1, come on Nitrites!

Thanks, yes I am on day one of cycling with ammonia. My last attempt of over a month never started. I got a lot of good advice here and at the local Fish shop. I am pretty confident of knowing the mistakes I made and am starting from scratch all over again. I will update my progress.
