    Fungus? Velvet?

No new food. I am giving him dry betta pellets (Zoo Med) that came with an automatic feeder we use when away. I also offered him Cobalt betta minis, but they are larger in size. He seemed to prefer the smaller ones. A few times I have feed him "treats" by Zoo Med as well. You can choose from...

    Fungus? Velvet?

Hi all! I just noticed this strand of who-knows-what in my betta tank. The tank is the Vita (from Kickstarter; made by Ecoxotic; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1652660578/vita-bring-life-into-your-home). A heater came with it, but I'm not using it at the moment. It's very warm here and...

    What is this?!

I think you're probably right. Now I'm more worried about the fish because after posting the original post, he hasn't eaten and isn't as active. I should probably repost under the sick fish topic to get more views. Thanks for your help! Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

    What is this?!

Also, temp shouldn't be an issue. I live in Charleston, SC, and it's very warm right now. The tank is also away from any vents. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

Hi all! I just noticed this strand of who-knows-what in my betta tank. The tank is the Vita (from Kickstarter; made by Ecoxotic; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1652660578/vita-bring-life-into-your-home). I had it set up before, but the betta died about a month after I got it. :( I cleaned...

    Birds nest cleaning

Bio Cube. I haven't posted a picture update in a while, so I will have to do that soon. We just rearranged the rock too, so it's different. :)

Pretty tank! It makes me want a bigger one! That's how it goes though. :)

    Birds nest cleaning

Jamie, post a picture of your birdsnest. I'd love to see it. What type of reactor did you add for algae, and what type of algae did you have?

I'll try the razor blade. That's exactly what I was thinking (about the sand bed). His new home awaits. :)

    Birds nest cleaning

Thanks for the info! I have heard about the peel and cut method, but ours is stuck on the rock like glue. I think we are going to have to break the rock to frag it...

    Birds nest cleaning

I have also heard to snip off tips with algae growth because it can spread and kill the coral. We just bought one as well, and a lot of the tips are white. Bleaching = bad; but I'm not sure if this is abnormal because it's such a minimal amount. Could it be new growth? We have only had it for a...

    Red bubbly growth

That's kind of what I thought, but I wasn't sure how big it was. These are tiny; you can see the zooanthid by it for comparison. I need to do some more research on it.

20 ish. We did a huge water change and it was right back high within 24 hours. We do a 5 gallon or more change on a 29 gallon tank every 1.5-2 wk. :/

As promised... I'm hoping to find a new home for some of the live rock. Our nitrates are a little high, and they're not really coming down. Sooo we are at a standstill until that's under control. I'm open to opinions and suggestions!

    Mantis Shrimp

I googled "peacock mantis shrimp" and mostly got the guy above in the 1st post. They are pretty awesome. The harlequin shrimp (below) are neat too. There was a pair at my LFS that took all of my strength to not take them home. Mother Nature (or whoever you choose to give credit) is nothing...

    Mantis Shrimp

I'm not sure how many other people are really interested in the science behind things, but I found this to be pretty interesting and thought someone else here might as well. It was on the Facebook page "I F@^&%$* Love Science." I'm just going to directly quote them. "The mantis shrimp is...

Haha! We have gone all LED since then, so this summer should prove a little more manageable. The LED strips my husband bought fit right into the existing "arm" that housed the original halide. He did have to gut it first though. It turned out very nice if I may say so myself. :)
