How long have the neon's been in the rank?

Has the tank cycled? Have you tested the water? Neon's tend to be a little sensitive to changes in water perameters, especially in non-established tanks.

I have 2 AC 70's on my 55 gallon...very effective.

I would do a 40% water change with a thorough vacuum cleaning. See if that helps.

Are you vacuuming the substrate during water changes? Also, what is the tank size and what filtration do you have?

How often do you perform partial water changes and what conditioner do you use?

A 200 watt heater should be fine...just locate it near the middle of the tank next to the filter outflow. As for the filter size, it really depends on stocking (how many fish and bioload etc.). Technically the 350 biowheel is enough, but more is always better when it comes to filtration. I...

I feed Hikari frozen blood worms or brine shrimp once a week and have not had any issues. I thought freeze-dried foods were a concern, not frozen:confused:

It's actually the planted oasis. It came in a roll (24x48") that we had to cut to fit the tank. The funny thing is that was the only part of the setup process that wasn't enjoyable:banghead: Here is the tank before the backdrop. We did add a few more plants and rearranged some since then...

They will change color to match the lighter substrate.

It's a Hagen Marina Reversible Background in Planted Oasis / Slate Wall. You can get it at Petsmart or Amazon. It is not self adhesive though...ours is taped on.

This is my first attempt at setting up a tank. In hindsight I wish it were planted. How difficult would it be to eventually covert to live?

I have 2 AC 70's. One was quiet from the start, but the other took some time to quiet down. Make sure the intake tube is pushed all the way down then try unplugging it and plugging back in a few times. If that doesn't work you can remove the impeller and coat the shaft with petroleum jelly...

Is the noise coming from the lid or impeller?
