    Tanganyikan compatibility

Is it possible/advisable to keep singles of lake tanganyikans in a community to prevent spawning and aggression between pairs? Just having a bunch of one of each? Everything I've read says to have groups but they will pair off and I dont want fry or constant fighting while spawning.

Getting ready to throw in the towel

Yeah I know the plants can die off and come back... but it's been almost a year since we moved, nothing has come back except the sword which is doing better than ever. I wonder if its taking all the nutrients? I thought the discus were well fed, I rotate between feeding black worms, beef heart...

Getting ready to throw in the towel

I'm lost. I've had aquariums for over 25 years.... I've never had as many issues with aquariums as I have in the last 2 years. After a totally mystery cloudy tank issue 2 years ago I decided to bit the bullet and buy a 75 gallon something that is much bigger than I've ever had before. I...

    Plants will not grow

It definitely could be both of those things. I had used excel in the past but haven't for quite a while. And I've had plants grow like crazy in the past with no c02 added so what would be some contributing factors to low c02? And it's strange because my other tank tests at below 5ppm nitrate and...

    Plants will not grow

Hi all, I have been having problems for almost a year now with trying to get my low tech tank plants to grow. I am losing hope. I have had plantd aquariums for years and am stumped. Last spring I moved and had to dismantle my tank and reset it up. Same gravel (flourite), same light (fluval...

    Excel-thread algae

Hi all. I have a tank that I made some big boo boos with. I have been trying to get rid of a minor algae bloom as well as kill of my pesky thread algae problem. I've been dosing what I would consider a lot of excel daily(6 caps a day for a 29 gallon) and it has been making a small dent in the...

    What exactly killed them?

I came to the conclusion that it was the iron. I bought a test kit and my iron levels are very high in that tank ( obviously, since I was dosing daily). I read about the fact that iron is actually often used to kill slugs and snails in the garden! I think possibly what happened was the hughbiron...

Fluval Flex shrimp and snail tank

Yeah I don't plan on heavily populating too quickly. I've had good luck in the past with shrimp in new tanks though, I will pick up a handful of rilis next week and go from there.

    What exactly killed them?

Hi all, so ive been trying to get some healthier plants growing, so I started dosing my tank heavily with potassium, iron and amazon elements. It did nothing for the plants at all, and killed off my entire population of trumpet snails and rili shrimp within a week or so. I also have nerite...

    drastic shell change

So, I know it's common for patterns to change a bit on snails when they change environments, but this is very interesting! I have two zebra snails and two red onion snails. The red onions still have a fairly typical pattern on their new shell coming in, however the two zebras both got weird. My...

    Feeding troubles

I often have feeding troubles with certain fish who are picky eaters because I am allergic to bloodworms. I have been successful with glassworms as a substitute, usually once the picky fish actually recognizes it as a food source it generally really likes them... but I just got 4 new fish and...

new to salt water - biocube 8

Hi all, Soo I have been a fresh water tank keeper for years, but I am being given a biocube 8 and noticed that people like to use them for nano reefs so thought I would do a little investigation into how hard it might be to learn to keep a Salt water tank, and how to go about it with the...

    What to feed Scarlet Badis?

well I tried bloodworms today... my LFS gave me some and a rubber glove to try and see if they will eat it and I will get away with out having a reaction. So far so good.. no reaction from me other than one sneeze, and the badises eventually seemed to figure out that they were food and at least...

    What to feed Scarlet Badis?

So I have 4 Scarlet Badis fish that don't seem to be able to figure out that anything is food LOL. From what I have read they are notoriously not good eaters, so wondering what I can try feeding them. So far fish flakes and sinking mini pellets are a no go, as are frozen mysis shrimp. I'm...
