    Tiger Lotus Bulb Floating

They’re constructed moss balls, I’ll include a pic. They tell you to remove them after a certain amount of time I can’t recall exactly how much time. The LFS sell them they’re aquarium safe, though they are marketed for turtle tanks. They’re pretty firm, bc the inner cage(?) the mossy stuff...

    Tiger Lotus Bulb Floating

I actually wasn’t sure what the deal with the ban was, my LFS just said they couldn’t get them bc a government ban. (I’m in the US if it matters) so that’s how I ended up with the fake balls they package up lol

    Any help appreciated

Maybe final update (fingers crossed) Did my water test today here’s the results: Ammonia 0ppm Nitrite 0ppm Nitrate 20 ppm!!!!! Ph is now 6.8 I did a 20% w.c. Bc frankly my arms feel like their on fire from days and days of heavy buckets. No fertilizer today. I’ll do another water test...

    Tiger Lotus Bulb Floating

It was pretty funny watching them, it’s probably my fault as I used to have those wanna be moss balls (I wish I could get an actual marimo ball or two, but I guess there’s a ban or something on them right now?) and they used to bounce around those. So they probably just thought I replaced em...

    Any help appreciated

I always do my water tests prior to doing any water changes. Previously bc depending on what my levels were reading, I would either change out more or less water when doing the water change. Also I used it as way to see how well my tank was cycling out any ammonia. I don’t have a test kit for...

    Any help appreciated

So did my water tests and change (55% again) the test results are looking better. Ammonia 0ppm Nitrite 0ppm Nitrate I’m gonna say 40ppm, bc I could see that it was visibly lighter than it’s been reading. But it’s still a red color. Ph is steady and remaining 6.6 So I guess I’m making progress...

    Tiger Lotus Bulb Floating

I have a couple of these plants, I love them! When I first got them I had to half plant mine, leaving just the top end of the bulb above the substrate. It was fun trying to figure out which end was which, and I ended up turning them over after a week. My fish thought they were soccer balls to...

    Any help appreciated

So yesterday I did a 50% water change, I admit I was kinda chicken on switching out 75% as I didn’t want to risk freaking out the fishies. At noon I tested the water and the levels were: Ammonia 0 ppm Nitrite 0ppm Nitrate I think 40ppm as it was lighter end between the 40 and 80 (I still can’t...

    Any help appreciated

I had the rainbows and mollies in a 29 gallon prior to the move, but when I did the move I noticed a series of pretty deep scratches on the glass, honestly I’m surprised I hadn’t ended up with a leak, and I was scared of the tank blowing out. Hence why they are now in my 55 gallon. The...

    Any help appreciated

Here’s the amount of food I mean when I say pinch. They do eat all the food, so I might be ok(?) from what you mentioned. Will def lower my water level as suggested though

    Any help appreciated

Edit to add: It actually has more aeration as I lost a 30 gallon tank so it now had the filter and bubbler and heater from that tank.

    Any help appreciated

Definitely agree with disturbing the soil bit, it got seriously sloshed between moving the tank and readding the water I had saved to put back in. At least it sounds like I’m doing the right thing, I just can’t seem to shake the nitrate level.

    Any help appreciated

Thoughts and advice. I moved my tank from one room to another, and I’ve been having some interesting developments. Here’s a reader’s digest to save some scrolling. After moving it the ph dropped from 7.4 to 6.6, and I had a small ammonia spike (0.25 ppm) and nitrites went to 0.25ppm as well...

    I upgraded my 20 gallon

Here is a pic of the new tank. I’ll def need to get a lot of plants to fill it up since it only has the two from the smaller tank. I had luckily moved those before her feeding dump.

    I upgraded my 20 gallon

I did a huge water change and siphoned the substrate to get the rest of the food that had settled post my daughter’s helpfulness lol. Changed 75% of the water and I’ll continue to do water changes till I hopefully get the levels back to nontoxic levels and I’m planning on keeping it up and...

    I upgraded my 20 gallon

Hey y’all I upgraded my 20 gallon to a 55 gallon. I had to move my fish after a week of cycling with the sponge from my old filter due to my 9 year old dumping food into the 20 gallon to “help me feed the fish”. The levels in the 20 were maxing out the nitrate test ?. So far so good I just...

1 week after water changing lots of ammonia - poop

Aiken is correct on his advice. I would only add that goldfish are notoriously big poop machines. It’s one of many reasons I won’t put them in my 20 gallon tank outside of it not being big enough I don’t want the headache of all that poop.

Help with bullies in my 29 gallon tank

I’m not an expert on dwarf gourami. However my three spot is perfectly content being he only gourami in my tank. Healthy appetite and interacts harmoniously with my other fish. So I would say it’s possible to have just one gourami in a tank

Help with bullies in my 29 gallon tank

I concur on the Gourami. I have a male three spot, and he doesn’t tolerate any other gourami in the tank. Not even a female. He straight up kills em. He’s fine with my other fish though.

    What is my fish?

It looks like one to me. I know some different breeds can have different looks. Are your other the same breed as this one?

    Asian water fern question

Thanks for the info Aiken,, I can always count on this forum for help. My ph currently is holding steady at 7.6 so hopefully there won’t be any problems on that regard ? Tea colored water won’t bother me, especially since it’s good for fish. I do have some carbon in the HOB filter, but...

    Asian water fern question

I thought waiting would be a better idea. But all my google searches was coming up with was places to buy some or someone saying it was an uncommon plant. And then there were some arguments as to whether it was truly aquatic or not. I’m glad I asked before doing anything unfortunate. Sounds...

    Asian water fern question

So the other day I went to one of the LFS for some fish flakes and while I was there I looked at the plants they sell in a tube and got literally the only one not rotting away. It was marked as an Asian water fern (Bolbitis heteroclita). When I got it home and opened I noticed it had some new...

I don't know how this happened.....

I don’t suggest adding the water from the bag into your tank it can seriously screw with your water parameters. I usually pour it into a bowl once they are acclimated and then transfer the fish to the tank via the net.
