It is a red-spotted sunfish, very active. I have several and they all eat out of my hand underwater. Very cool fish. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Grass Shrimp Hatching

Hey Y'all, I was out collecting shrimp to feed to my native sunfish and a couple had eggs so I put them in my small crawfish tank and they started hatching and soon they were everywhere. Not sure what to feed them. I'm assuming they're filtering out food from the water because you can see food...

Pros-Cons of collecting native fish -Darters

I know! It's crazy to think you can catch a longear like that in a ditch down here. But hey there's nothing wrong with having another tank, I know what you mean though I'm going build a stand for a 20gal long this weekend for my little brother. We couldn't find anything around the house strong...

Pros-Cons of collecting native fish -Darters

It's good to see others interested in natives! I have been keeping natives for years mostly sunfish and catfish. I currently have 1 longear sunfish, 1 largemouth bass, 1 red spotted sunfish, 1 black crappie , 2 warmouth, a bluegill, 2 green sunfish, a yellow bullhead and another catfish still...

plastic bottle fish trap. what I caught.

2-3lbs that must be some sort of world record haha, mot state records are not even a pound, they don't get very big in the wild

bass bluegill and other native fish

They will and can eat anything they fit into their mouths so feeding them isn't hard. Just make sure to have a good filtration system and clean the tank regularly

    Resealing in the rain?

Hey y'all I was planning on resealing an old 55 gallon aquarium I got for free today. I was planning on doing it in my garage with some fans blowing but it is starting to rain a little. Is it not a good idea to reseal the tank with it raining outside, will the moisture mess with the seal? Thanks...

    What is this fish

Green sunfish will have a slight white edge on their fins as well and it will show on them as little as an inch. But hybrids are always interesting themselves in an aquarium. If you want him to become more personable stop feeding him minnows for awhile and offer him any type of worms when you...

    What is this fish

Well that first picture is a hybrid between a pumpkinseed and a green sunfish. But that second picture is a true green sunfish

    What is this fish

No bantam's are plain like that. Hmm ok so he has the color of that pumpkinseed? He might just be a hybrid of some sort is all I can think.

    What is this fish

Ok here! This was the one I was thinking about.. A bantam sunfish I think this is what he is. Also I am not really familiar with this particular species for gender ID, but now that we know what he might be, it won't be to hard to dig a little and find out

    What is this fish

Haha you're welcome! Hmm that pattern is throwing me off, I have seen it before but I can't think of the name. It makes me think of a warmouth but there's no horizontal marks on the gill plate and the mouth is too small, then a pumpkinseed sunfish comes to mind but I don't think it's that...

Haha it's no problem, I just really want to know what he is! But I think he just has it out for you haha Just whenever you do end up getting a good pic post it and ill be glad to ID him, that's if you catch him in a good mood lol

  19. LSUMAN

    What is this fish

What type of sunfish is it because that might be the reason, some are more shy than others
  21. LSUMAN

    What is this fish

Well that's odd. What type of sunfish is it? And do you go up to the tank and feed it often?
  22. LSUMAN

    What is this fish

Dang how small are they! Haha and yes I think you could put a largemouth in there and when he gets too big just filet him and fry em up! I have a bass too and he is pretty cool and growing like crazy, mine likes to keep on the move so having a good sized tank is a must
  23. LSUMAN

    What is this fish

Yea I saw that thread, and yes they are difinitely friendly, if you go with sunfish I would suggest getting longear sunfish they have the coolest colors out there besides maybe orange-spotted sunfish but they are smaller. You could actually get a couple of different types of sunfish to have some...

    What is this fish

Haha they have good taste. It's surprising how much personality each sunfish has, it's cool, my big male longear that I have in my room if he sees movement he's up at the front of the tank investigating
