    Female betta with live-bearers? Experiences?

Hi... I have relatively limited experience with this. I have a betta sorority of 5 with some platies. We've been relatively lucky but are still watching. What I can tell you is that we had one of our bettas kill several live bearers BUT those fish she killed were showing signs of potential...

    Help! My poor dwarf gourami!

I know. It's amazing! He's looking good today. I was being half funny when I brought up the concussion but the reason I did bring it up is because I am in recovery from a brain injury suffered in 2011 and still have symptoms and my fall would have been nowhere near the height of this, if taken...

My new Female Betta fish can't eat!

In regards to feeding, I have several bettas in a community tank. What I do is feed the flakes to the others and then feed a few of the betta pellets to them individually once everyone has had their fill. Bettas really do need the higher protein pellets, anyway, so she may find this a...

    Help! My poor dwarf gourami!

Thanks for that. I am noticing now there are some buoyancy issues so I am hoping *hoping* they'll straighten out. Is there such a thing as a concussed fish? Kinda joking about that, but also kinda not...

    Help! My poor dwarf gourami!

Okay. Whew! (for now). He knocked himself dizzy, I think, but he appears to have recovered. He went from not swimming to moving around normally in about five minutes. I'll keep an eye over the next few days but at least it's looking better. :)

    Help! My poor dwarf gourami!

Oh no! A while back I wrote about our dwarf gourami and how he sometimes gets so excited he jumps up when I feed them. Tonight he did it and landed HARD on one of kiddo's plastic toy. We put him the tank but he's not well. Breathing but not swimming. Oh, I am so sad. This was one of our...

Why don't my schooling fish school?

Yes, I'd say mine, too, school and then carry on on their own, school, break away, etc. It'd be good to give some thought to the questions asked about how many you have and, as Coyne says, how long they've been in the tank.

Why don't my schooling fish school?

How many danios do you have? They like to be in schools of at least 6. If you have less than that, I'd recommend you up that number.

    Rocks

If you know that they are appropriate for your aquarium, I usually brush them off and then rinse then in very hot water. You can use boiling water on them too. Just don't boil the rocks themselves...

    Ammonia + ammo lock

"My ammonia is still high today reading of 0.5 - 1 hard to tell with bad light. I think I could be overstocked. I've been doing a daily 40-50% water change and it's slowly dropped.. I still have ammo lock in there, so I'm wondering if It's just a false reading? What should I do?" I just did...

    Ammonia + ammo lock

The fry... we had a platy give birth in our fish-in cycle. It was one of our first fish and I didn't know she was pregnant. One lived out of the batch. Regardless of where you are on your cycle, many of them won't make it anyway as they can get eaten, I also understand they can kill each...

    Ammonia + ammo lock

I still feel you're just in mid-cycle. It can take a while. Our fish-in cycle took nearly 6 weeks. My advice, still, is to wait it out and let the ammonia come down and then the nitrites to come up. Don't vacuum or really over do it on the water changes. How many fish do you have in there...

    Help!

"I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong, because all I want is what everyone else seems to have, that crystal clear tank with nice healthy and interesting fish." I wanted to add, Younger94, that all of us have been through trying times with our tanks and, well, we all started somewhere. It...

    Help!

I'm wondering... would he be best, then, to do a fish-in cycle at this point??? Get the fish out of the bowl and into the tank? Yes, needs a bigger tank, etc, but if that can't happen in the immediate future, is best course to put the fish in the tank? Thanks for jumping in and giving more...

    Help!

Hi there... Welcome to the forum! I'm no great expert but I'll take a stab at a couple of things. First thing to note is that goldfish have a higher bio load than many other fish and they really need about 10 gallons each to themselves, so you may be putting a lot of stress on your filter...

    First fish - problems

I don't want to give the wrong info here but if you take the ill fish out and no one else seems to be ill, and you did treat the tank with meds already, I think I would just carry on with cycling the tank, keeping an eye on how the other fish are doing now, and medicating again if necessary.

    Dark julidochromis coloration

I see what you mean. (I do social science research for a living so can't help but get the urge to search things out!). I am not seeing one that looks as dark as yours, though. I would guess, then, it may be another variety. Marlier's variety?

    ID on strange fish

It's yours? Cool! Was it given to you? Interesting you wouldn't know what was in your tank but there must be a cool backstory to how you got it. Either way it looks like a neat little fish (little may not be the right word!). Enjoy!

Do a google search of freshwater lion fish and fresh water angler. Looks similar to some of the pictures online.

    ID on strange fish

Is there such a thing as a fresh water angler? It reminds me of an angler fish.

    First fish - problems

You're in a difficult situation, indeed. If you really want to keep them all, medicating first may be the way to go. My concern is that cycling is hard on fish even under the best conditions. With fish that are unhealthy, you may lose them anyway as the tank goes through the cycling process...

    Dark julidochromis coloration

Hhmmm... Not sure but that does seem quite dark. Good to post photos as you may get some better feedback than what I can give. I know my kribs look nothing like what they looked like when I first got them and are definitely darker. When they get stressed out by other fish and changes in...

    Dark julidochromis coloration

I have no idea about julidochromis. They're beautiful, though. I do know and have seen that my fish certainly darken up as I get them home and as they settle into a new enviro, most notably with my kribensis and Bolivians. Stress and water params can also affect this. If your water params...

    Ammonia + ammo lock

It's me again. I have a lot of time on my hands today as kiddo plays. I have one more thought. You have a whole lot of fish in that 55. I know that this is the second go at cycling but, ideally, and especially in a fish-in cycle, fish are added slowly, a few at a time, several weeks apart...
