Mollies are certainly active fish and that behaviour does not sound normal, I wouldn't buy more mollies from that lfs or at least not from that batch of mollies.

Did you soak or boil the drift wood before using it in your tank? If not tannins might be coming from the wood which will cause the water to look yellow/brown. It is not harmful to your fish. If the water isn't yellow/brown, it's most likely a bacterial bloom just as armymp327 said earlier...

How do you feed them spinach and lettuce? I tried spinach but none of the fish seemed interested, did you weigh the leaves down? With the cucumber and zucchini did you leave the skin on? Also did you cook them a bit first?
