Help brownish/green algae not going away

I have done monthly changes for 4mo and the tank has been great. The tetras and betta also seem content. Just curious as to why after 4mo's the tank is developing the algae. I fear a weekly change for so few fish could cause more of a ph imbalance. Maybe I'll try bi weekly and see how it goes.

Help brownish/green algae not going away

In my 5 gallon tank I have 1 mail veil tail betta and 4 golden pristella tetra's. I have never had issues with this tank in 4 mo's. Now just about a mth ago I noticed a greenish/brown algae growing on the blue/white stone and some on the walls of the acrylic tank. I do monthly water...

    New picture for mystery fish

I have seen many people say that beta's are peaceful and not aggressive. A pet store person suggested that I buy a fantail goldfish as a tank mate for my male beta. My beta went after it immediately and caused wounds which I had to care for until the goldfish was healed. I love both fish but...

Why do people not like goldfish?

I have one fantail and I love watching it. It's a beautiful fish. Yes when in a bowl (as many times pets stores will suggest that you house them in) they do display what a large bio load they have. However since it has been in a tank with a filter I never have an issue with dirtiness. A...

Starting new 5 gal. tank soon :-)

Update: I hv 5 gallon tank set up with a 5-15 gallon filter (after the filter that came with tank broke down). Seems the filter is a little strong for my beta & 4 golden Priscilla tetra's. So will hv to read up on baffling it. The beta went after the tetra's a little the first night but...

Starting new 5 gal. tank soon :-)

Well being very new to the hobby a worker at a pet store actually suggested the gold fish as a tank ate for the beta. I went home after my purchased and researched good tank mates for a beta. A goldfish was a poor suggestion. Found out a little too late. And had I known they had big bio...

Starting new 5 gal. tank soon :-)

I had fish many years ago. I currently have a male crown tail beta in one bowl and a new goldfish (butterfly? Is about 2.5" L with a long flowy tail) in another. Tried combing them and looks like beta took a nibble. Beta has been lethargic with dull coloring for a mth, barely eats. I do...
