Help with white growth on substrate

In reading another post, I'm fairly certain it is Eco-complete substrate. Thanks in advance for the help. Oh! I should mention it seems to grow when the lights are off, and go away soon after the lights are turned on. I have LED's, but it's a low-light sit. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium...

Help with white growth on substrate

My newish 5 gallon planted tank with a mixture of black sand and some kind of planted tank substrate that I can't recall the name of is growing a crazy white web of some slimy stuff! (The substrate bag is somewhere in my supplies room that has also become a storage room for my pregnant...

Do fish grow to the size of their aquarium?

Ok, this brings up a question in my mind. With the Python, (I have one by some other name) how do you control the water temp when refilling? I hook mine up to the kitchen faucet but only use it for refilling. Takes too much water and wastes it when you use it to vacum (drought here in AZ big...

    Arizona

Hello Tucson! Btw Arizona, in Flagstaff I found what so far appears to be a GREAT LFS! Salt and fresh, really competitive prices, good plants, knowledgeable ppl, AND in the same strip mall as a PetSmart! Soon as I track down the business card I got, I'll pass it along!

    Warning about African Dwarf Frogs

Oh, and thanks for the info. Looking at your pic and what hers look like, I think hers are maybe a little overweight, but not bloated.

    Warning about African Dwarf Frogs

Wow! Absolutely the right name! Great pic, by the way. The plant behind and next to him? Can you tell me it's name? I got some recently and forgot to write down the name (or as I usually do, photograph the tag!).

    Sand depth

Glad you mentioned that! I like snails, just in moderation! The idea of them multiplying out of control is the stuff horror movies are made of! Eeeeeeeeeeekkkkk!

Platy Fish - Submitted by Derail

Great profile! I realized, by looking at your pics, that I may be completely wrong about these 4 fish I'm trying to ID! The PetSmart near me tells me that they are not allowed to sell the fry that are born there. (Not sure if this is truly a regulation they have to follow, and other stores...

    Sand depth

Some please tell me what MTS is? Snail I'm guessing... What kind. Also I used white silica sand in my 29. I am pretty new to sand and used a very deep layer, plus built a tiered area out of sand and rock. Can sand can be too deep? I saw a mention of sulfur dioxide in sand. I have been...

    Warning about African Dwarf Frogs

What can someone tell me about dropsy? My daughters 2 frogs ADF's are bloated and this has us very worried! They are in a 20 long with 3 snails, a shubunkin goldfish, 2 rasboras and 3 ballon belly mollies. Becca noticed one of them looked pregnant 2 days ago. She looked up pics of dropsy and...

    aquarium sand

Now that I have a sand tank using some nice white sand, not play sand but also not specifically for tanks. I like my tank better with less air bubbles than one might usually use. The filter creates surface bubbles, and I have some live plants, which I hope keep the water oxygenated.

That raises a question for me about driftwood. The driftwood that ppl use in the tanks it it ALWAYS actual driftwood? Or could it be say a branch or knurl that is off a tree? If so, does it have to be completely old a dried out? Would I have to do something to it to make it work? I DO have a...

No cycle after 4 months? Clorine?

Ok, someone clear this up for me: It's been mentioned : "the ammonia gets SO high." (Emphasis added) What is "high" when she is doing a fish in cycle? At what level, given that she is using "Prime" should the ammonia be, in order to get the BB started growing? She's not going to return the...

    aquarium sand

Witch brings a to mind a good question. What are some unique ways everyone are using to wash their products going in their tanks? Oh! On this, it's been fun! In one case, I used a colander from the kitchen to do a drain on some wet sandy gravel that I was moving. When I was done, I set it to...

    aquarium sand

So, I don't suppose I could get so lucky that you might be nearby? (I'm in AZ) Or, does your company ship? Or maybe you can at least tell me what I am looking for. Are you familiar with the material that some places use in their ashtrays? (I'm a smoker, so I see lots of them) Its black, and it...

No cycle after 4 months? Clorine?

Hello My Daughter! So happy to see you've taken this over. So much gets lost in translation. I shall introduce you, and back away. Fish friends, my beautiful and smart daughter! Jen. And Jen, my fishy friends!

No cycle after 4 months? Clorine?

Ok, so I found out that MG per Liter is the same as Ppm. So, the tap water has an average of .80 PPM of chlorine. That seems high. Will Prime completely take care of this?

No cycle after 4 months? Clorine?

But the carbon will DETOXIFY it, not remove it. Oh well, thank you. I will file this in my "cabinet of knowledge" thanks. But I think leaving it in is a better plan for me. I've always used it and always had good feelings about it. But thank you. Ok, so at what level should ammonia be kept...

No cycle after 4 months? Clorine?

So your saying to take the carbon granules out of the floss bag? I'm not sure I get why. The carbon is not gonna kill the Bactria we want, but it might detoxify the ammo. At least that would be my thought. I may need 1 more strong agreement with this idea before I pass it along. But I'm open.

No cycle after 4 months? Clorine?

Well yeah, these are minnows, not guppies. And when I say that, I don't mean like when my fish was sick, he was at the surface seeming to gasp. That's not what these are doing. They just seem to be fish that prefer the top few inches of water, like swimming kinda near the surface, like the would...
