Ever wanna slap your lfs people in the back of the head?

I live in a small town, and my LFS isn't bad considering. Selection is limited, though, so I occasionally go to a very big aquarium store in Columbus. They are pricey, but a very cool store to walk around in and their selection is awesome. But their employees are lacking. When I went there for a...

    Bristlenose pleco

Keep offering it. He will find it and then he will be a happy camper. Mine likes zucchini better than cucumber. I feed veggies 2-3 times a week, along with frozen food. I have a heavily planted tank and my BN's don't bother my plants except to clean them. I slice up a veggie then freeze the...

    Bristlenose pleco

Try adding more plants/decorations and put food at opposite ends of the tank so they don't see each other. I also give veggies twice a week and have at least two veggie clips in there far apart when I do. They leave each other alone because they're too busy sucking on their own veggie slice...

Do I have more sick fish or am I paranoid?

Do some extra pwc's, too. It can only help. If I start to see something suspicious, it usually happens when I have gotten behind on pwc's and usually resolves itself when I step it up. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Does Excel kill my plants?!

I have found water sprite to be nitrate hogs. If my nitrate levels get too low, they don't do well. Just something to factor in to your experimenting. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Does Excel kill my plants?!

My hornwort did better before I started dosing Excel, but it hasn't died. It just isn't flourishing as much as it used to. I chose my other plants (which ARE flourishing) over the hornwort. I have actually been experimenting with allowing a few of my water sprite "offshoots" to grow as...

Flashing with no signs of disease

Just throwing this out there...a few of my fish will start flashing at the smallest ammonia spike, so don't discount that as a possible cause if there is even a small amount of ammonia present. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    A question about filters...

I use two filters, too. I like knowing there is a back-up. Another thing I like is that I alternate "cleaning" the filters (squeezing the gunk out of the sponge in old tank water), which helps prevent mini-cycles. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    feeding brisslenose plecos

I take a cucumber or zucchini, slice it all up, put them in a ziploc in the freezer (separate the slices so they don't freeze together) Then a couple times a week I take out a slice, let it thaw in warm water, then stick it to the side of the aquarium with a veggie clip. Leave it in overnight...

New to this, need help, plants dying, water issues 6 Gal Nano Betta Tank

No, do not stop with the water changes. It is what is going to keep your fish alive. The beneficial bacteria mostly build up in the filter media, not the water column. Keep the ammonia below 0.25. Do not change your filter media. Use Prime. It detoxifies the ammonia but leaves it available for...

    Sudden ammonia spike...please help!

Definitely could be. My platy was apparently pregnant when I got her. The only indication I had that there were babies is that two of them survived by hiding in my plants. I got lucky in that the two survivors were female, so the buck stopped there. Otherwise I wouldn't have known there were...

    Sudden ammonia spike...please help!

If that's the case, it might be wise to lose the breeder box and let nature take its course. You can use Prime to help detoxify the ammonia while you are trying to get through the mini cycle with daily pwc's. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Sad dwarf gourami deaths

Sounds like you got fish that were already ill. It would probably be better to add the water to the bag while it's floating to keep temp stable. You can use a chip clip to clip it to the side of the tank. You also probably don't need to wait an hour before starting to add water. I only wait...

Fish hovering in corners??? Why are they doing this?

How long has the tank been set up? Do you know what the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels are? How often do you do partial water changes, and how much? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice
