    Planning a Tank Move

Hi all, I'm planning a tank move about 45 minutes away and would appreciate some advice on the below issues. As I'm moving out of state to a much smaller apartment, I won't have the space or time at this moment to care for a reef tank, so I'm going to set it up in my brother-in-law's dentist...

Bristleworm? Beneficial or harmful to reef tank?

Is this a bristleworm? The beneficial or harmful type? There are quite a few of them and they only come out from inside the rocks during feedings. Any help with identification is greatly appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

GSP covering the bottom or the wall

Here's a recent pic of mine growing up the overflow wall. It has since spread even further up the wall and is even starting to grow onto my red cap. I've had to prune it a few times already. Here's a pic when I first placed it against the overflow (you can see the red cap and GSP in the top...

ID please - anemone like creature that only comes out at night

Dav3, this article on tube anemones might be of some interest: On the Captive Biology of Tube Anemones — Advanced Aquarist | Aquarist Magazine and Blog. Looks like our critter may be similar to the banded tube anemone pictured in the article. Lucikly, the article suggests that the stings of...

ID please - anemone like creature that only comes out at night

That's a creative and potentially very satisfying solution. I have a feeling I'll enjoy doing this and might even start hunting for more of these guys. Thanks Dav3!

ID please - anemone like creature that only comes out at night

Any tips for removal without having to take the rock out of the water? It retracts incredibly fast and completely disappears into its crevice.

ID please - anemone like creature that only comes out at night

Thanks again Dav3. I looked up striped bead anemone and it does look like one. Anyone know if they are harmful? I'm going to leave it for now and continue to monitor the situation, particularly because it's going to be difficult to catch since it only comes out when lights are off and is...

ID please - anemone like creature that only comes out at night

Thanks, Dav3. Could it be a feather duster of some sort? The more I look at it, the less it seems like an anemone because of the way the "feathers" flare out, the lack of a visible oral disk, and how quickly it retracts completely into the tiny hole in the rock.

ID please - anemone like creature that only comes out at night

Can someone please help me to identify this creature? It only comes out at night, always in the same spot, and sometimes when I shine a light at it it retracts into the rock. It looks like aptasia but I didn't know they could retract like that.

    Tough time picking new tank

Dary, do you mind sharing why you think it's a better long term investment? Thanks.

    Coral acclimation

I wouldn't worry too much. Like bribo said they are all pretty hardy corals and should come around in a few days. However, I would be careful where you put the pulsing xenia as it could quickly overtake your tank. Make sure you put it on a rock that's relatively isolated so it can't spread...

    Cycling And Lights

I'm just curious, jeffaquarius - what proportion of water from the overflow do you have going into the skimmer chamber versus the fuge chamber? I'm looking to set up something similar.

    Stirring sand

It depends on how deep your sand bed is. My understanding is that if your sand bed is not deep enough (at least 4-6 inches), there is insufficient anaerobic activity to outweigh the accumulation of detritus in your sand bed if you don't clean it. In that case, you should stir or siphon your...

Adding live sand to established reef tank

The sand bed now is about 3/4 inch. I would just about double my sand volume. Would moving sand aside when I do my pwc and then adding the new sand in the empty spots solve that issue? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Adding live sand to established reef tank

Any issues with adding all 20 lbs at once? Pour it on top of the existing sand or move some sand aside and then pour? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Adding live sand to established reef tank

I'm looking to add 20 lbs of live Fiji pink aragonite sand to my 1 year old reef tank. The tank currently has about 20 lbs of the same type of sand, but the amount of sand has been decreasing due to it being siphoned out during pwcs. Does anyone see any issues with adding the sand all at...

    Bulb anemone question

I'm not sure you have enough lighting for the nem, but just give it a few days to settle into the tank. 4 T-5 bulbs might be enough if there is a rock that is relatively high in the tank for the nem to perch on. Also, my experience is that nems don't like that much flow. I feed my nem mysis...

    60g rimless cube build

It's an eshopps sump with two chambers. The first chamber barely has enough room for a filter sock, skimmer, and a second pump for a GFO reactor, and then the second chambers holds only the return pump. If (or should I say WHEN) it's time to upgrade, I would love to have a sump that has a...

    60g rimless cube build

I think I have the exact same tank and stand! Is it a Deep Blue tank? Where did you get it? I have issues with my sump being too small, but it looks like yours is bigger (mine is probably about 20 x 18 x 12 or so). Good luck with the build, will be following along.

    Low alkalinity

As an update, parameters are holding steady tonight at 1300 mag, 400 calc, and 7.5 alk. Will keep testing to see when alk starts to drop. Thanks for all the advice so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
