    What Would You Stock?

Just for fun, since I know more or less what my plans are. I have a LOT of aquariums that aren't in use until I remodel my basement for a fish room. My old house makes me weary of putting too much in the higher stories, so I have a storage with aquariums in it. So sad. Anyway, how would you...

    Your Local Fish Stores

I thought it would be interesting to have a post describing what we like and dislike about our Local Fish Stores, and what we wish we would see more often or less of in the industry. So here's mine. Coastal Pet Center Pros: The owner is nice, especially since he knows me well enough to trusts...

    Dead(?) Pleco

I will look up your youtube videos. I do use test strips, I want to move on to the higher quality stuff but I keep thinking oh the LFS will restock. I swear they buy one at a time because they always say they just sold the last one.

    Dead(?) Pleco

I don't think so, but as they say - it takes one to know one. And as far as the L-system, like I said it came from Petco on an impulse buy. It was just such a strange death to see. It didn't seem bloated, just had red streaks under it's skin. And I as far as how large it gets, I had a decent...

    Dead(?) Pleco

Lol. No need to be snarky, I meant common pleco, which is what I was dealing with. Also clown plecos, bristlenose, zebra, green phantoms and some others I'm not thinking of at the moment.

    Questions about rays?

In that case, I will wait.

How many Discus can you have in a 125 ?

My understanding is that 10-12 is allowable, depending on your filtration and water changing rituals.

    Questions about rays?

I know even the smallest rays (retic and hystrix) can be housed in a 125 gallon, but at what size should they be moved to a larger tank and what is their growth rate like? I haven't spoken to my local provider of such fish, but is it likely that they will trade smaller specimens for larger ones...

    Dead(?) Pleco

He was in a 30 gal for quarantine by himself, the 55 gal he was going to be in only has skirt tetras in it for now, and he was going to be moved to a pond next summer. I know how large plecos get.

    Dead(?) Pleco

LFS only has very small common plecos (like 1-3") for like $25 which is kind of ridiculous for a common pleco that size and they've been really bad lately. They're usually pretty good but every time I go in there there's dead fish in at least 3 of the tanks. Which I get it that FS don't have the...

    Dead(?) Pleco

Spoke with petco representative. The store is out of the way but I can go with a sample of my water and get a replacement if my water is deemed appropriate in 60 days without a receipt since I have a reward card. May just cause me more trouble if it keeps happening but it's at least an option.

    Dead(?) Pleco

He was bought at Petco. Impulse buy. I cycled the tank using pure ammonia and have had fish be in there during quarantine before with no issues. It's a 30 gallon and he was about 5"? He was going to be moved to a 55 gallon until summer when I was going to start a pond. Acclimate to temperature...

    Dead(?) Pleco

I bought a common pleco several days ago and he died today. Cycled tank with the following perams. Temp: 75 degrees F pH: 7.1 Ammonia: 0 Nitrate: 0 Alkaline: 4 Hardness: 8 Used question mark at first because his mouth moved but yeah he's a goner. He has like... red under his skin in various...

    Indian Tank?

These are all really good, and dwarf puffers I can do in a separate, smaller tank. I do love them so! Other than Indian Almond Leaves, any other plant ideas?

    Indian Tank?

I'm going to be decorating my bedroom in an Indian (as in The River Ganges Indian... though my boyfriend is American Indian, so I wouldn't be surprised if we do that, too) and I was thinking about setting up a 55 gallon up there with fish native to India, but I find it hard to exactly pinpoint...

    What type of gourami?

Thanks. So do you guys thinks its a boy or girl? Not that it particularly matters, it's name is already Custard.

    What type of gourami?

I got this little fish (about 1.75"?) from a LFS in a tank just labeled mixed gourami. I thought a honey gourami but she (just seems very feminine to me) looks very pale and not as broad vertically. I think it's my favorite actual fish, I love how gracefully it moved and one time it scared the...

Yeah, it's really a crayfish. Just called a lobster for whatever silly reason the founder of it decided to call it that.

Today he was rampaging the aquarium trying to find a way out... Good luck with that, Bruce! It's a 55 gallon with decorations that don't come even half way up and I purposefully set the heater and filter intake too far away from ornaments for that reason.

Best color to photograph apple snails on

Depends on what they're for. Black and white is always classy, but if you want them to look fun, I'd go with bright contrasting or monochromatic colors to the shells.

My HCBL, Bruce. He's really my boyfriend's actually, also the clown pleco that never sits in a place I can properly photograph him. I really like him, because we're both so excited when he wanders around the tank and isn't hiding out.

Nitrates through the roof! Cycle done already?!

There's no way it's cycled in that few days. Starting with water from an established tank would help, but you'd be better off adding water squished from the filter media itself. As for cycling with fish, I suggest Danios... They're way more hardy than guppies. Don't add too many fish at a time...

    Gravel or sand????

I'm a huge fan of sand. Though, gravel has it's pros as well. I have sand in my aquarium. If you can get pool filter sand, it's really cheap. I got a bag of 50lbs for like 11 dollars from Ace Hardware. Some places have it cheaper, but I had to order and pick up through Ace because apparently the...
