Mine was $20 ( south TX ). 4 days new to the tank. He set up shop and hardly moves far from it. I seen him clean my maroon clown a few times ( very cool ). He molted a few days after being in the tank. This a good sign or bad?

thanks for your help guys I removed my fluval after the cycle. Im not sure what the No3 was before the first PWC 40 - 100ppm hard to read that thing! I did check the water that was going into the tank, was 0ppm ( ro/di). I guess more PWC are needed. Should they be more then 20%? What salt mix do...

hey guys... ok so after my cycle was over i did a 35% PWC. No3 was at 20ppm so i did another PWC 20% a day later still 20ppm. Checked a day later and was still at 20ppm so i did another PWC 20% today. Checked for No3 tonight and still at 20ppm! Everything else seems fine Nitrite 0 Amm 0 SG is...

does indirect sunlight count? I mean i notice when i open my blinds around 12:00pm my fish "wakes up". I turn my tank light on at 3:00pm - 11:00pm thats 8hrs. Would the sunlight count as extra light, as far as time goes? I don't want to "bug" out the fish or add to any unwanted algae growth.

ok i just tested for Nitrate again... and its now 20ppm.

one more thing... i have a fluval 403 that has pads and bio balls should i take them out and just use the fluval for circulation?

i have a 140gal FW thats 25 years old!! Next time it goes down i will be redoing the silicone ( have no idea if it has ever been redone ). Sweet find RTV good luck.

tecwzrd this is absolutely a fishless cycle...thanks for the tip dskidmore... As for the algae... well it was my first sw tank and i think i was just being a noob about it, over feeding, lights on to long did not keep up with PWC, using well water =/. No more of that. I'm now keeping up on pwc...

I have a few turbo snails that will soon be going over to my new tank set up. Green hair algae has grown on there shell and I'm wondering if this will seed my new tank with this algae? Last thing i want is to get off to a bad start. Any way to clean them up or should this be nothing to worry...

Try ebay, I got mine for around $100 shipped (new) I would think they all do the same thing... but i could be wrong. This one works great 100gpd. check it out for yourself.

thanks for the tip ellisz :wink: seems there is always something to do in this hobby hehe.. witch in my case is a good thing. so do you do pwc the same or not as often, with all the extra volume of water and the bio load being light? you still do 20% of the hole volume?

i cant fit much of anything under my stand, so.. my tank is set up against a wall that separates a room from the closet. My plan is run my plumbing through the wall :D witch would alow me to have a big sump. My question is how big is to big.. i was thinking maybe like a commercial size trash...

hey thanks coldfish.. had no idea nitrite would effect the readings of other test. As for testing the nitrate... new test kit.. had to play with it just once!! or twice (= what about the krill, would leaving them in to long prolong the cycle?

on day 5 of my cycle... Ammonia = .5 , Nitrite = 5 + , Nitrate = 20ppm, Alk = 107.4ppm and PH = 8.0 SG = 1.023 day 10 all is the same except Nitrate has dropped down to 5.0 is this normal for nitrates to drop during a cycle? i still have my 3 krill in the tank is it time for them to come out...
