    Bageezus's 125 Gallon Tank Build

They could I guess. Maybe they are just to young still, but they have never even tried yet. I have actually had my cory cats swim all over the map turtle and he just sat there and didn't care. We keep the turtles well fed to.

    Bageezus's 125 Gallon Tank Build

I got the stand stained with two coats and began working on the doors. The doors are held in place by cabinet catches. If you want some picture of how it works let me know and I can post some. I just finished filling the smalls holes in the doors and will stain them tom. Next comes my new light...

    Bageezus's 125 Gallon Tank Build

Here are a few more shots of the tank and the current basking area for the turtles. I cut some glass and placed it into the corner. I plan on buying some acrylic and building a nicer enclosure to keep the turtles from escaping.

    Bageezus's 125 Gallon Tank Build

Its been awhile. But here are some updates. So I have been working non stop and just haven't had the time to log on and update my build. So here is a good amount of pics. I made a custom sump out of a 29 gallon tank. I built a bin for my drain line that runs into a bio balls chamber and also...

    First aquarium advice

I have a friend that has the Fluval Accent. It really is a pretty neat tank. Are you planning on buying a larger tank eventually? They are $$$, but if you don't have the room for a bigger tank, or don't see yourself upgrading, go for it. If you decide on the 29, consider building a stand. A...

    How to propare drift wood?

I have always used my power washer. This gets pretty much anything off since the majority of pieces are way to big for any type of boiling. Here is the piece I just got a few days ago. It is now in a blow up pool with some resin weights on it.

    Bageezus's 125 Gallon Tank Build

Driftwood! So I took the wife and kids to the Kankakee River today. It is only about 4 miles from the house. We parked to the side and went to to the water. Within 5 minutes I noticed this nice piece of driftwood just sitting on the edge of the water. I grabbed it and we headed home. I spent an...

    Lighting a 125g

Ya the fixture is right over $500. I know lighting is expensive. I paid over $350 to light my 28 nano cube reef tank. The bulbs would have to replaced and if I went with Geisemann im lookin at another $160 or so 660-700. Woo, gettin pricy not to mention a few hundred for a automatic co2 system...

    Lighting a 125g

Really the only fixture ive found so far is a 8x39 Watt AquaticLife T5 HO Light Fixture w/ 6 Lunar LEDs. A little more $$$ than I wanted to get. I have found aquatraders ones also. Much cheaper but then you get what you pay for.

    Lighting a 125g

So I am considering making my new 125 tank a planted tank. I currently have the tank setup with pool sand as the substrate. I am also looking into a light fixture. Its a 72" fixture with 4x 80W T5 HO lamps 6500K good enough for the majority of plants. Iv'e been in this hobby for a long time and...

    Water Parameters

Nitrates are def important. Nitrates are not directly lethal in the way ammonia or nitrites are, but over time higher levels with def have negative effects on your fish. Nitrates are a good contributor to algae growth also. You want them as low as possible, but you will always have some nitrates...

    Bala shark

It really just depends on the LFS. My friends store loves doing this. He will even trade a larger fish for smaller fish of the same kind. Some larger bala sharks sell for $30-50, so he really makes off pretty good. Bala sharks are omnivores. They will eat your standard flake food, freeze-dried...

    Bala shark

If you plan on getting a larger tank a 60 will work if they are bought small. They can get as big as 12"-16", but take awhile to get this big. When I had balas, I had Clown Loaches with them and had some Tiger Barbs with them. Loaches can also get very big, so if you did decide to house them in...

    20 gallon stocking

Petsmart also links all there tanks together. UV only does so much. I use uv on my tanks, but when you let fish rot in your tank, your going to have problems. Like I said not all of them neglect there fish. My local petsmart doesn't maintain the tanks. Get a water sample from your local petsmart...

    20 gallon stocking

Hey that is a great start. Cory's can get bigger, but they grow so slow. Some of my corys have been in my fw tank for over 1 year and have only grown a little bit. You can still get them with gravel just keep and eye on them. Like i said not every pet smart is terrible. You just need to watch...

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

Why I still keep fish. I think the main reason I keep them now is my two little girls. They love them. They love to go pick out fish with me, and have always helped me move plants and rocks around in the tank. They even both have there own tanks now. My first tank ever was when I was 8. My...
