    Tank Remodeling

Over the next several weeks/months I am going to "remodel" my tank. I have been fighting a losing battle with cyano and algae and decided that my current setup is obviously not working well. Here is my plan and a couple of ideas. Please let me know if I am on the right track. 1. Add...

    Feeding and pumps

You might try having the water drain through a filter bag as it enters your sump. That way you you could just periodically clean the filter bag.

    Frustrated, need suggestions

Sorry for the miscommunication. I am not feeding 2-3 times a day, once every 2-3 days. For the fish I am alternating between frozen brine shrimp and Hikari marine S pellets. I have also been adding dry sea weed thats chopped in a food processor for the tang, who, by the way, I found dead...

    Frustrated, need suggestions

I have been using RO/DI water for about a week now and it has been used in all the recent water changes. The water has been mixing at least 24 hours, that is one of the reason for the changes every other day. The temp is within a couple of degrees. I have tested the water prior to adding it...

    Frustrated, need suggestions

I am syphoning the cyano. The media is as follows: First stage - eheim mechanical filter (EHFIMECH) rest - is the biological media (EHFISUBSTRAT) The media is less than a year old. How does the cannister work against the live rock? It would seem that the biological media would turn into...

    Frustrated, need suggestions

I have had a moderate ongoing battle with cyano. Purchased a protein skimmer, but when it arrived from UPS, it was broken. I am in the process right now of returning it and getting a replacement. The problem is i am leaving in a week for a 6 day trip to disney world and the cyano seems to...

    Sump Plumbing

Thats what I was thinking, but wanted to ask before I did something wrong. I am planning on using a submersible pump and was planning on installing ball valves. Also, what section in the sump/refugium do you place the protien skimmer? Does it need it's compartment or can it go in the inflow...

    Canopy Reflector for VHO's

When I built my hood, I also primed and painted the inside of the hood with a high gloss white paint intended for bathrooms and kitchens to help reduce potential moisture issues and to aid in reflecting the light. Not sure if it actually does anything with the light, but I figure it can't hurt.

    Opinions on canister filters

I am currently using 2 Eheims on my 75 gallon tank. I know it is an over kill, I think they are both rated for more than 75 gallons, but they are left over from my freshwater aquarium days. I figured over filtration is better than underfiltration. They are both very quiet and have been...

    Salt Mixes

After reading the post below: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=54935&start=30 I had a question about salt mixes. I started it in a new post because I did not want to hijack that one. What are the pros and cons of the different salt mixes? What salt mixes do you use and why...

    RO/Di Flow problem

I had thought about using a rubermaid container or trash can, but with 2 small kids and no real good place to store it, I need a container with a more secure lid/seel. I found a place that sells 15 gallon food grade water storage barrels for $24.95 new or $15.95 reconditioned. I would like...

    RO/Di Flow problem

I have been in contact with the seller via email. he was very helpful, suggesting several potential problems. In the end, he feels that the problem is in the RO membrane. He said to mail it back to him and he will send me another one. Worst case scenario I get about 20 gallons per day and...

    RO/Di Flow problem

I bought a gauge from HD to check the pressure at the faucet where the unit was connected, and got a reading of 60 psi. That is well over the minimum for the system. It seems like I should I be getting more than 30 GPD with 60 psi. Could there be something wrong with the RO membrane?

    RO/Di Flow problem

I am starting to think that it is a water pressure issue. When you first open the valve, the water comes shooting out, then quickly goes to a trickle. I am going to go to HD later and get a gauge to measure the pressure. Are the booster pumps expensive?

    RO/Di Flow problem

I only getting about 1.5 gallons an hour. That works out to only 36 gallons a day for a 125 gpd rated system. Something is not right. I will continue to play around with it and see what I can do, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
