Thanks Rivercats, so what do you suggest should be done? Leave the soil in the tank with a little bit of water for a few weeks? If the water is changed then, would the soil still discolour it?

The first few days I put some flakes in an plastic bag and crushed it into powder. After that I've just crushed the flakes up real good in my hand. Has your platy popped yet??

You using sand substrate? I also have sand, and wanting to get more plants for my tank. But I heard sand is not the best substrate for plants? What kind of fertz do you use?
