    Fish filter

+1 on the Aquaclears. They're a bit pricier than the other HOBs, but offer more versatility in what filter media you can use. They're also pretty much indestructible. I have the 30 and the 50, and the 30 has been working flawlessly for at least 3 years.

    German blue ram questions...

Mine were doing that with the sinking Omega One cichlid pellets when I first got them (spitting back out), so I added freeze dried bloodworms and Omega One flakes to the feeding regime. Now they attack the pellets and the flakes, but seem to leave the bloodworms alone. Coloring didn't take long...

    My fluval spec 3

Looking good! I'm not sure how similar the setups are, but I have an evolve4 housing my betta, and flow was an issue for that tank as well. I just cut some holes in the return pipe (it's soft plastic on the evolve) until I had enough to provide a slow circulation that didn't stress mine out...

I think this forum made me want LEDs...

Update: I got tired of waiting for Current to release their new model, as the old 10k bulb is an algae machine. So, I ordered a new 6700k PC bulb that shipped yesterday. While checking craigslist today, I see an ad for 2 of the 24" Satellite+ setups. To all of the LED pros: would this be a...

    Green Hair Algae Question

I'm gonna lean towards either overfeeding or old bulbs, as I'm currently experiencing the same problem as you, and those are my diagnoses. I'm currently running an old 10k power compact bulb as I decide which direction to go with lighting (I blew my 3 month old 6700k replacement somehow), and...

How to get rid of aiptasia anemone

+1 on Aiptasia-X. I had a couple pop up on some live rock I purchased, and it was recommended to me at my LFS (it's what they used). I did as the instructions said, and after a couple of thorough searches/uses I haven't seen any again.

    Cryptocoryne undulata, slimy, "decayed" leaves...

Crypts are notorious for melting in new tanks, but are really hardy. I've had them seemingly die off numerous times, but they always grow back better than ever. Excel can also pose issues for crypts, so that may be another part of the problem. I read in a few places that you can gradually...

Sword to fill 20" tall space

I've heard Ozelot swords can get pretty big, and they look pretty cool too. I've got the same issue with my Amazons (staying compact), but I'm still scared to pull them up because of the potential tank disruption.

    Newbie at live plants ...

Dwarf Hairgrass, from my understanding, is a bit harder to grow without high lighting and no CO2 (I've never grown it, so that's just hearsay). As it's a short carpeting plant, I doubt you would be able to successfully keep it with your current lighting. Moss would be a good foreground option...

I think this forum made me want LEDs...

That seems to be a culmination of exactly what I want, based on the preview and forum posts. Now I guess it's time to play the waiting game..

I think this forum made me want LEDs...

I think I'm going to start using the term "gee-whiz factor" in everyday conversation, haha. I guess I was misled on information, as I was under the impression that 28 PAR was suitable for med/high light plants. The LED guide posted above considers 80-120 to be high light. Red plants are...

This is exactly the type of resource guide I was looking for. Thank you.

I think this forum made me want LEDs...

Thanks for the info. I guess one of my concerns with LED is the fact that I'm still relatively new to them. I've heard good things from BML, but have yet to check them out. Despite the fact that I absolutely hate it, I have found that patience and knowledge is absolutely vital in this hobby, lol.

Store bought plants, roots in foam...

I take anything that's not the actual plant and discard it. As Brookster said, just be patient when removing it, so you don't damage the root system.

I think this forum made me want LEDs...

So guys, after the input I've received from here the past couple of weeks, coupled with research here and everywhere else, in addition to the part where I somehow blew my primary PC bulb randomly, conjoined with the fact that I've read sketchy reviews on the cheaper bulb replacements that I was...

20 gallon planted aquarium after 3 weeks co2

I really enjoyed staurogyne repens in my 20L, but I had trouble with it (no CO2 and I was only dosing Excel). I'm debating on giving it another shot with the pressurized setup I have now. In high light, it grew in lush and compact, with pretty quick growth.

    Stocking Replacement suggestions

I'm personally not a huge danio fan, so I would go with the cardinals. It's nothing against the danios, but the tetras just catch my eye. The danios may school better; I'm honestly not sure. I have my tetras in a planted tank on a dark substrate, and those blues almost seem blinding sometimes...

    Stocking Replacement suggestions

It might seem cliche, but neons or cardinals are some of my favorite "schooling" fish. They're not necessarily a tight schooler in my tank, but the bright blue is certainly eye-catching. Depending on your temps, you could also go with White Clouds. Another that I've always wanted to try, but...

    RightTurnClyde's 29 Gallon Build!

Your tank looks great, and I really like the mossy rockwork. I have a spare 29 in storage that I've been trying to figure out what to do with, and this is giving me some ideas. To chime in on the AC filter noise, I own two (AC30 and AC50) and have never had issues with any noise, or issues...

    MA957 regulator question

The O-ring actually wasn't in there at all, which was the problem, lol. Apparently in my excitement to get the thing going, I didn't notice it pop out when I went to fill the bubble counter with water. I must have gone through thirty to forty different articles/posts about the thing before I...

GBR + EI = Bad Idea?

Sounds like that's a unanimous "Yes" on the python, lol.

    MA957 regulator question

Hey guys, as I posted on another thread earlier, I purchased and received an MA957 regulator today. I ordered the diffuser with it, and picked up a 5 lb CO2 cylinder from the local welding supply. I followed a couple of helpful guides, and got through all of it...until the bubble counter. It's...

GBR + EI = Bad Idea?

I'll keep an eye out for them. An LFS owner back home absolutely swore by them, but I never got around to purchasing one. There's a couple of good, local forums for NC, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for one on their classifieds.

GBR + EI = Bad Idea?

I'm running the temp at 80, currently, but that's just because I keep forgetting to up the dial, lol. They've been colorful and active, with only a slight bit of territorial bickering (I've got 2M/2F, and they seem to have already paired off...I probably would have done 1M/2F if I had done a bit...
