What temperature do you try to maintain?

Generally those temp settings on the heaters aren't too accurate. I have one of mine set to 81 and the tank is at 79. One of my other ones is dead nuts on. Nate

    Changing salt mix

I have had the same problem with Oceanic. I switched to Instant Ocean and now that's all I buy. Just start using it with your water changes. No problems mixing them. Eventually you'll be all IO. Nate

Yet another thread abour live rock curing

Yeah, well, this rock is so dead I don't know what to do with it. I'm hoping I can nurse it back. UPS screwed up and it ended up sitting for days because they misrouted it. The smell was unbearable and there were dead crabs, worms, and coral all over the package. I don't think I'm going to...

Yet another thread abour live rock curing

I just have a question (maybe 2) about curing LR. Should I drop a heater in the tub that I'm curing the rock in? The water is at 69-70 degrees since it's on the lowest floor of my house. Is that too cold? The second is, do I have to have sand in the bottom of the tub, or can I do without? Nate

    how to kill cyno

Flow is a big thing. Putting higher flowing pumps in my tank stopped my cyano in it's tracks. I haven't had a problem since. Nate

    RO/DI PH

I was talking about both actually, but since you answered my SW question, I figured I'd continue on about the FW. Nate

    Finally, getting everything in order

Update: We reported them to Paypal last night, and lo and behold we got a response today saying they will reship them today. They said they didn't respond to our messages because they were with their kids. Hope they get here by Friday, because if they don't, there's going to be a ton...

    RO/DI PH

Ok cool. But what about doing water changes in my FW tank? I checked the PH of the RO/DI and it's 6.4 ish, and I've read it here too. Nate

    RO/DI PH

Alright, I know I read it somewhere, but I can't find it. RO/DI water has a very low PH. Even too low for most FW systems (6.4 or so). How do you guys that use RO/DI water get ethe PH to match the tank PH? Nate

    Finally, getting everything in order

So I think this guy with the LR screwed us. He said he shipped them last Monday and sent us the tracking number. All week, the UPS tracking said "billing info recieved, but package not picked up." We questioned him a few times about it and he stated UPS did pick it up. I talked to a buddy...

    Question about power head placement

Ok, thanks. I don't have a sump or anything. I'm using a Bio-wheel 150 in one, and a 125 in the other. I wish I could ditch the 125 because it seems grossly inadequate compared to the 150. Yeah, the 230 GPH the PH900's put out seem to be more than what I need for the 29g, but I figured since...

    Finally, getting everything in order

IT talks about it in the auction. Keep in mind filter life is dependant on your tap water quality. They kind of contradict themselves in the listing. Where they show the replacement DI media, it says "on average about 1600 gallons" whereas further in the listing it says "On average it is...

    Curing New Live Rock

http://www.aquariumadvice.com/showquestion.php?faq=2&fldAuto=6 That seems to be the agreed upon way most people do it, with a few variations. Nate

    Finally, getting everything in order

The reviews I've seen are good. It seems a lot of people here have them. The seller has been great (we messed up during the Ebay process and ended up accidently ordering 2 of them while ordering a faucet airator adapter from them. They refunded our money back the next day, no questions...

    Finally, getting everything in order

That's what I figured, thanks. Looks like I'm going to have to find a way to get a lot of salt for these water changes. :? Nate

    Question about power head placement

Well, since we've been flat broke lately, I won't be able to get 2 more PH for each tank yet. I know it would help immensely though. I was lucky to be able to get these 2. With 1 PH though, would it be best to place it on the front left corner blowing acorss to the right rear corner, a few...

    Question about power head placement

I know that some of you have played with power head placement to get the best flow with minimal dead spots. I'll be getting 2 - Maxi-jet PH900's (one for each of my 29 gallon tanks) in a couple of days. I want to place them in the right spot. Where in your experience would be the best place...

    Finally, getting everything in order

Quick question. Should I cure this rock after I get it? He's shipping it in plastic tubs and stuff, but I know there will be some die-off. It sounds like it will be in good shape when I get it though. Should I cure it for a few days anyway? Nate

I think my LFS is screwy

I have found that yes, they will eat and eat until they look like they're ready to explode. They will eat all of the "blender mush" I put in there leaving very little for the hawk (although he does get some). I have found the Hawk will eat flakes and the puffers won't, so I can at least get...

I think my LFS is screwy

That seems to be how most puffers are. If it can fit in their mouth, they will eat it. Luckily, these guys grow to be a bit smaller than my Hawk. Nate

Where to get a good RO/DI unit

It says in the Ebay auctions they are a standard size filter. The filters will do like 1600 gallons. The DI media is good for like 800 gallons. You might have to get the DI media from them though. Not sure though. The life of the filers/media depends on how bad your tap water is though...

Where to get a good RO/DI unit

http://www.aquariumadvice.com/reviewpost/showcat.php?cat=36 That's what I went through yesterday. From what I can tell, the $95 deal is a pretty good one. Nate

Types of Fish to Add to a FOWLR Aquarium

You're good for a little over 30 inches of fish (don'tcount the tail) with that tank. So figure out full adult size and go from there. Also, use the compatability chart in picking your fish. Also keep in mind inverts. Nate
