The guppy was not in there for very long! This is perfect for shrimp.

    New tank ideas!!!

I've got a 150 x-tall tank planned for natives so these species have been on my mind! Gorgeous fish and fascinating behaviors, and I'm sure that goes for the wee pygmy versions too. Pygmy sunfish are what we would call around here killifish - I think there is some confusion as to where to...

Ok - pygmy! I definitely was thinking regular sunfish.

Sunfish need a bigger tank for sure.

    Getting started as a newbie

I would personally wait a couple of months on new additions. I like a tank to "mature" a bit and settle in. The biobugs are not completely established and solid right now, in that disruption of the substrate or filter could cause a cycle easily. Can you tell I've been burned too many times...

I think you'll be okay in terms of bioload, assuming you don't have many more babies, and the very small size of them means the bacterial colonies can grow right along with them. Keep checking the ammonia and nitrite like you've been doing but I don't think you'll have any trouble. Congrats!!

We need numbers - can you estimate how many adults and how many babies?

    Show off your catfish :)

Here's my newly acquired Peckoltia sp. L147 (often caught along with clown plecos and misidentified as such). I'm pretty sure it is a female and is an adult at about 6" long. She is pretty secretive and has a cave in my 150-gal SA setup. You can see the long tail fin extension

    New tank ideas!!!

Ok, so personally I'd be looking for bright colors, like blue and yellow, but this is hard in a 6 gal. A school of some of the micro rasboras, emerald eye tetras, ember tetras, celestial pearl danios (or whatever they're calling them now!) plus a small school of some of the very small cory...

    Aquarium headcount- should I worry?

I'm WAY more concerned that you have ammonia. All my tanks run pH 7.4-7.6 so don't worry a bit about that. Neons are not the hardiest of tetras so I'd do a PWC and keep that ammonia low. You're going through a cycle so you'll have to watch things closely.

That looks so nice! What did you think of the LFS?

    Unseal behaver (angelfish)

This sounds like spawning behavior to me, but you say the angels are six weeks of age? This is a very tiny angel if so, and a bit early for spawning behavior.

    Stones

No problem on the stones. What I do after cleaning with bleach is to rinse well, then soak in a bucket with an overdose of dechlorinator. You have no worries at all after that. I also think the tank looks good! However, I can understand if she thinks something doesn't look quite right. I have...

    Getting started as a newbie

I'd start off with 7-8 fish and be sure to test for ammonia and nitrIte daily to see what happens. That is a VERY encouraging sign that the LFS would bother to give advice about cycling the tank, etc. Many of them are just selling merchandise so hopefully this will be a good resource for you. I...

    Getting started as a newbie

Your readings are good right now, but the bacteria cannot survive without anything to feed it, like the ammonia and nitrite from fish waste, or the ammonia from a bottle. Bacterial colonies cannot build up without any critters in the tank- they'll die off. The best thing is to add the filter...

A few of my current tanks

It has been a million years but I'm back to haunt everyone! Here's a few of my current setups. The first two are of my 150-gal SA community, which has about 12 young Geophagus redhead "Tapajos" that I'm growing out, and a single wild caught leopoldi angelfish, along with a pair of...

I'm late to the party but I know Rama from Schoolz of Fish and you ought to check out his shop. I think he might post on Craigslist also with days and times that he's open, but check first beause he's not always there. You also need to check out Azalea Aquariums behind RIR. PM me about our...

Hi there, just found your thread. It sounds like you are well on your way. When you say you are fishless cycling, does that mean you're adding ammonia to feed bacteria provided by your friend's cycled media (I may have misread something but this is what I understand)? As for water changes...
