    More pics of my tanks...

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I'm so glad no-one said "geez will this lady ever stop posting pics of those tanks already" LOL I loved the replies from everyone, some really good viewpoints there. I never thought of tank keeping as artistry before, but the comparison of it was very...

LOVE THE TANK! Don't worry about how many pics you post, I personally wouldn't have minded seeing a few more, lol. I post pics of my tank all the time. We all love fish here, and seeing a new baby is great fun for all of us. You did a wonderful job with atmosphere and fish choice. Don't blame you...

My Fishies: 30 ga. FW Planted.

Nej~ Love the tank! You really did a good job, and those are some happy looking fishes! The tank looks very well cared for, which I think is important. What good is a tank if you have to try and look through murky waters. Gorgeous looking fish! Don't worry about showing off pics, I do it too. If...

    More pics of my tanks...

I'm sure everyone is tired of seeing these tanks by now. lol. It's just that I'm always changing things around in there. Does anyone else feel like they have to make it perfect in the tank all the time? Does anyone else constantly try to arrange the deco just right? Maybe I'm weird. I'll think...

    possible sick tetras

LjGar~ A distended belly can be cause for alarm absolutely! My cichlid had a ditended belly and I diagnosed it as dropsy. By the time they show signs with that disease it is usually to late. Dropsy is a swelling of the intestinal tract which causes organ/kidney failure if not treated immediately...

    Murky waters.....

Something fishy~ What I did was this: I did a really good gravel vac, then cleaned every decoration in the tank along with fake plants, cleaned the glass real well, scrubbed the bubble curtain and suction cups as well as powerhead, did a 35% water change and put in fresh filter cartridges. Even...

Cause for Concern, or Normal ?

Grant~ Don't know how reliable this is, but a pet store worker whom I asked about snails said that mostly they are messier than they are of any real help with cleaning. The plecostemus or catfish, etc are the best thing in freshwater. The chinese algae eaters I hear are better. I don't have a...

I'm thinking of buying a new filter for my 55

Thanks so much to both of you for the great replies and advice. I am putting the HOt Magnum on my christmas list. It really looks like it will do a pretty good job in my tank. I did a really good cleaning on this last water change, and the clarity is pretty good, but I still want that filter.

    Dropsy?

alandra_lee` Dropsy is generally characterized by a loss of appetite, sudden change of behavior, and a swollen belly. I had a case of it myself in my 55, a month or so ago with my peacock cichlid. The dropsy is actually a swelling of the tissue and organs of the fish, especially the kidneys & if...

I'm thinking of buying a new filter for my 55

Hey fishy friends~ I have a 55 gallon tank and it's been up for 3-4 months now I guess. I have 4 cichlids, and I do weekly 25% water changes. Well, it seems that the deco and the fake plants grow algae at a much faster rate than they used to and the water doesn't sparkle the way I would like; so...

    missing pleco

somethingfishy~ I currently have an aquatech filter made by regent. My 55 was a combo tank from walmart with filter included. I want to know more about these pricey canister filters I hear about. Does it have disposable cartridges to use and are they expensive? Or do you have to make your own...

    missing pleco

Corvuscorax~ I have one of those cheap run of the mill plecostemus  He is I think a bushynose pleco if I remember correctly. He is probably just adding to the bio-load and not helping much. I don't know what to use that could also help clean. My tank is doing well, but seems to be messier...

    New 55 Gallon

All these wonderful people have given the best info you could ask for. My suggestion could be down the road and not necessary really. I have a powerhead in my 55 to create current in the middle of the tank for better Oxygen exchange. The fish enjoy the current as well. Great filter you have on...

    110 gal African Cichlid tank

WOW, that is so high speed! I know nothing about all that high tech fishy stuff. Must have taken you years to learn all that. This sump idea sounds pretty cool. I am not good at making stuff, especially plumbing and things of that nature. I have no knack for anything domestic either; I can't...

Off Topic: Need some snow pics...

Kevin~ I happen to disagree with everyone here. I think snow is awesome as a kid as well as an adult. I love winter, and I love snow, it's not evil in my opinion. I grew up in NE and also have fond memories of snowmen, sledding, and home-made ice rinks. I also however have fond memories of snow...

    missing pleco

Cheer up. I have thought my plecostemus went missing a bunch of times. He was in fact just skillfully hidden. They can get into places you wouldn't imagine; and with such docile fish in the tank a murder sounds a bit strange. 35$ I hope you find him, and ground him for his bad behavior, lol. No...

Pic of my new betta tank

No problem, glad my tank was so inspirational :P That was really creative thinking on your part. Using a picture frame to divide the fish, that was a genius idea. Way to go! I would like to see a pic of the tank someday if it is possible. Anyone who goes to that much trouble to keep...

HELP - Two ClownLoaches With White Spots !

Yup, Sounds like Ick. Alot of times new tanks seem to have a bout with it at some point. When I started my 10 gallon, I got it twice. P.S. In my opinion PLATY'S are Ick proned. Every platy I've come across has had ick. They seem to stress easy which can contribute to it. I'll never buy a platy...

    110 gal African Cichlid tank

Just wanted to say, I AM SO JEALOUS! I would love to have a 110 gallon cichlid tank! I love cichlids! I have a 55 gallon cichlid tank and it's my pride and joy. Wish I could have a tank as big as this whole house filled with malawi cichlids. Unfortunately, I cannot even go with a tank much...

Pic of my new betta tank

Nope, no filtration in the tank yet. I want them to have all available space for swimming. Bettas sometimes don't get the proper housing quite often kept in cups and such. I buy little oxygen stones and put them on the bottom, and change once a month. Bettas like stagnant water as a pose to alot...

    separate f/w & s/w for photo contest

This is just my two cents, and maybe no-one else even cares, but I would like to have the photo of the month contest separated into one for s/w and another for f/w. I just think that there may be someone out there who has a really cute guppy or molly, but may not enter the contest because some...

    blood gouramis

I had a blood gourami in my 10 for quite awhile. I never had any aggression problems from him. He was actually quite timid really. He had no problem getting in the mix when it was feeding time, but never went after any other fish. Maybe it depends on their tank mates. Mine was dwarf, and he was...
