recommend a soft/silk artificial floating plant for betta?

I've also seen a floating lily pad decoration, and the leaf itself almost feels like a type of foam (it's very soft, not a worry for the betta)! Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

Alright, today my water is testing at 0 ppm ammonia, 5+ ppm nitrite, and 40 ppm nitrate!! Time for a water change! :O

Ding ding ding, my tap water has 10 ppm nitrate! Darn it, I don't know why I never checked for that. :( Oh well, back to the drawing board. Now I wish I didn't have those guppies! Anyway, thanks a bunch for all the help! I'd be lost without this place. :)

Well hopefully weird doesn't mean bad, in this case! D:

It just confused me how the tank has had ammonia and a fair amount of nitrate present since day 1, yet I haven't seen nitrite! Is the nitrite-to-nitrate process a relatively fast one, where I could've missed it if I didn't test the water at the right time?

Oh yes, I wasn't planning on adding ammonia at this point! :) But thanks, I'll look somewhere like that the next time I need it! How far along would you say the cycle is? Is it going good?

Hello, I've just finished week 1 of cycling my first tank using Seachem Stability. I haven't added any ammonia yet because I can't find any in my area (and yes, I know I can order it online :P). Ammonia has stayed at a steady .25 ppm, I haven't seen any nitrites yet, and nitrate has stayed at 10...

    FloraMax

Okay great! I have a few already, when I see how they do then I'll know which ones do get more of!

Ah, I figured that would be the case! Oh well, I'll figure it out. :) Thanks a bunch for the help!

    FloraMax

I also got a couple bags of small-grain black gravel to mix in with the FloraMax, would that help with getting the plants rooted down?

    FloraMax

By that, I'll assume that it's junk for all you high-tech aquarists, but for my low-tech purposes it should be fine. :)

    FloraMax

Hello, I searched through the forums to look for a thread that would answer my question, but I didn't find any. So I'm wondering what the general consensus is for FloraMax substrate for planted tanks...I'm afraid it's not a good one, but I'm still curious! :) I'm starting a low-tech low-light...

Seachem Stability & plants during cycling

Yes that's an awesome video, thanks! And thanks for the fertilizer recommendations, I will most definitely put them on my shopping list. :)

Seachem Stability & plants during cycling

It doesn't specify a type of vallisnerias, but it does say Echinodorus ozelot. I sure hope the moneywort works out, it's one of my favorites on the list! Anyway, thanks very much for being so helpful! It's greatly appreciated! :D

Seachem Stability & plants during cycling

Yes, I'm expecting it to take around a month to cycle fully! Of course I'm hoping for a shorter wait than that, but it doesn't matter too much if I have to be patient. :P The plants are Amazon swords, Anacharis, Brazilian micro swords, Vallisnerias, Hornwort, Crypts, Echinodorus, and Moneywort.

Seachem Stability & plants during cycling

The plants are all basic, I'm getting an 'easy plant package' online. The lights are the LEDs from the marineland hood, I think it's 22 white LEDs and 2 blues. If you can't tell, I'm trying to keep this setup as low-maintenance as possible! ;) & it's comforting to hear another good review for...

Seachem Stability & plants during cycling

I can't say I'm familiar with carbon but the filter I'll be using is the Marineland Biowheel filter, which has activated carbon. I assume that's the same thing? And for lights, I'll be using LED. As far as ferts go, I'll buy any I need! Just so long as it's not a bunch of components for me to...

Seachem Stability & plants during cycling

Hello! I'm going to be starting up a 10 gallon planted betta tank in a couple of months and I have a couple questions about cycling. First off, I've read countless great reviews on Seachem Stability for starting up a cycle, but if anyone else has used it in a new tank to jump-start the cycle...

    Prepping Silk Plants- color leeching?

If the ones you have are from a big brand like Topfin, you should be fine! It's just that mine were sold in a plain plastic bag and they're just loose stalks, not cemented into a base or anything, so I felt safer soaking them! :)

    Prepping Silk Plants- color leeching?

Hello, I recently bought a bag of silk plants at a fish store, and I've just soaked them in hot/warm water for over an hour and some of the color has leeched. I've read up on it and some sources say to not use the plants if the colors leech, but I have friends who just soak the plants until they...

    10 gallon betta community options

It sounds great, thanks a bunch! :) I'll have to post a picture of the tank, once it's all up and running. :D

    10 gallon betta community options

Would that leave some room for more fish? I think I would rather have extra space than a full stock of fish!
