Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

Another question guys - I want to increase the wattage in the tank as I'm conscious of it perhaps being too low for my plants. Some of them like the egeria densa require 0.50w per gallon of water which works out to 36w for my tank, and I only have a 15w. I can see it is beginning to affect them...

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

Yes got petsathome will have to ask around I guess not rinsing filter and yes used dechlorinater when putting in water. But guess what - talking to you guys has just changed the destiny of my tank lol. It has dropped from 4ppm to 2ppm since my last post. I might do a 10% water change tomorrow...

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

Unfortunately no one in my social circle owns a tank and the LFS are against fishless cycling and very adamant in adding the quick solutions which allow adding of fish in 24 hours. So I think asking them for some established water will only end up in a sales pitch for this unwanted item. I'm...

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

Hey guys need some insight. Have had the tank setup for a couple weeks now and the ammonia levels are not coming down (they are consistently at 4ppm). I've read around to do a water change but any advice from you guys?

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

I'm really interested in and considering taking the plunge into purchasing a few red cherry shrimp. Firstly, how many would you guys advise in a 72L tank alongside 6 neons, 6 micro-galaxy rasboras, a Betta and 3 otocinclus. And also, is there any point keeping both otocinclus and red cherry...

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

Thanks FishyNovice some wonderful thoughts there. I admit I fell in love with the danios at the LFS - great personalities! But after reading around a bit I would feel wrong introducing this species into what may be too a small tank for them - maybe in the future after an upgrade.

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

Agreed =) just that I have heard (even on this thread) that danios have a 'high energy level'

But would the zebra danios settle in a 70L tank with tetras and betta's?

What's the general consensus about doing a fishless cycle with the plants in the tank?

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

[ QUOTE=Mebbid;2791594]The oto cats are fairly difficult to keep in a new aquarium. I would increase their number up to 4 and add them after the tank has been running fully cycled for a month or two. Other than that it looks good. As for plants: Anubias, java moss, java fern, bolbitis, and...

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

I recollect reading somewhere about the Betta and shrimp problem though some people say they have kept them together and have been fine, I guess there's the little draw of luck there as well? Nevertheless I think as I'm having second thoughts I will deduct them from the package. If I were to...

Newbie with a tank - so many questions!

Hi all! Firstly to introduce myself, my name's Mani and I'm from London (born and bred =D). I've come here for ongoing advice as I've dug out my old 70L tank and decided to delve back into the fish community. I say 'delve' back but that doesn't make me a professional by any standards. Last I...
