    red cherry shrimp

Thanks for the reply. Just to be sure, the shrimp are not adversely affected by the glut dosing are they?

    red cherry shrimp

I have a nearly stocked aquarium. I am thinking of adding a few shrimp, but I have never had them, so I have some questions. 1) First of all, my main question is in regards to my tank suitability? I have a 29 gallon tank. I have a fine gravel (CaribSea), a few lava rocks and a couple large...

    Corydoras and glut (updated)

That's a great idea. Honestly, as I am new to tanks and plants, pressurized CO2 has been a bit of an intimidating topic. I need to look into it though.

Painting a room with an aquarium in it

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping that this was the case. I will just be rolling the walls. I was just concerned that the strong odor may somehow transfer toxins into the water.

    Corydoras and glut (updated)

Yeah, pretty heavily planted tank with lots of shade. I even have frogbit covering half the tank on my "low-light plant side". They are generally very active as you say. If I see one sitting around in one place too long, I definitely get worried about it. I pretty much knew this one was a...

    New finnex planted plus !!!

Brookster, congrats on the new light. I recently upgraded to it as well and am really enjoying it. Are you running the blues along with the red/white? I ask because I haven't been able to find out if this is recommended or not. I believe some do and some don't. Also, I just updated my...

Painting a room with an aquarium in it

Anyone done this without causing problems in the tank? I have an open top but could obviously put a cover on it temporarily. Could run fans and open the window. Could cover the tank with cling wrap for a brief period. Any other ideas or tips; or is this just a sure recipe for problems?

    Corydoras and glut (updated)

Just updating this thread again. I had another dead cory yesterday. That's 2 of my 9 that have now died during the week of increased glut dosing. Still unsure if coincidence or not. I have decreased the glut (metricide 14)to 2.5 mls per 25 gallons; I was at 3.1 mls per 25 gallons. I plan to...

    question about Prime

Nevermind. Saw on Seachem's site that this could be normal.

    question about Prime

3 months or so. I don't refrigerate it, but didn't see anywhere on the bottle that I am supposed to.

    question about Prime

Is it normal for prime to have a grayish sediment in the bottom? I just happened to look inside the bottle and noticed it. If shaken, it goes away (into suspension I suppose). Just wanted to be sure I didn't have a mold or something growing in it. Thanks

    new to plants; anatomy question

Thanks for the info. I was hoping they could be removed.

    Corydoras and glut (updated)

OS, I am fairly obsessive about weekly 50% wc, removing unhealthy plant debris promptly and water quality in general. However, what I haven't figured out (and it bothers me) is how to vacuum my fine grain gravel. My siphon just sucks the gravel right into the bucket. I have seen some siphons...

    Corydoras and glut (updated)

Several posters were having a thread conversation about this topic a few days ago. Specifically, there is some thought that Corydoras might be more sensitive to glut dosing. Some mentioned personal experience with heavy glut dosing without any adverse effects. I have habrosus corys and have...

    new to plants; anatomy question

I am going to show my ignorance with this question so please forgive me. I planted these stems I picked up from someone's tank (cardamine lyrata and ludwigia repens). There are a lot of white strands coming off the stems that are somewhat unsightly compared to the stem and leaves themselves...

    planting stems and hair algae

Quick questions. New to planted tanks. I just picked up some cardamine lyrata stems from a local hobbyist and planned to come home and plant them. I dumped them out and was preparing each for planting (tearing off bottom stems). As I got one ready, I tossed it into the tank to float while I...

    Snail Identification

I have had pond snails for about a month. I have removed a few but basically have just let them be. I have heard that if you don't overfeed your fish, the population of your snails won't get out of hand. I have seen them on my plants, but I don't believe they are eating them.

    Rivercats, question for you

Thanks for the reply. Thankfully, that BBA I had was just on the dw. I removed the driftwood during a water change and scrubbed it all away with a toothbrush. It hasn't come back, yet. Fingers crossed.

    Rivercats, question for you

Thanks for the info, Clark. But in reference to Mebbid's post, his cory cats are tolerating a very large dose, so that should make us both feel good. Mebbid, how do you figure this to be 10 times the excel dose? I may be wrong, but you are dosing 1 ml/2 gallons of metricide which is...

    Rivercats, question for you

Wow, surprised to see my thread from 3 weeks ago get bumped back up top. Artist, to answer your question, yes, I did start dosing glut. I am dosing metricide 14 daily, which I understand to be twice the strength of excel. I started very conservative as follows: 0.5 ml/10 gallons x 1 week...

    Help identify this growth

Thanks again. I have read the cory habrosus may be sensitive to glut. I am using metricide and am hoping to get to 1 ml per 5 gallons straight out of the bottle. So far they are tolerating well; I am currently at 1 ml per 10 and am increasing weekly

    Help identify this growth

Thanks, Rivercats. A couple more questions if you don't mind. As stated above, the BBA is now removed/gone, but I'm sure it could come right back. Would you recommend reducing my photoperiod to help prevent that? Also, do you think that getting my metricide doses higher will help with...

    Help identify this growth

update: I removed the piece of dw from the tank and scrubbed it with a toothbrush. The algae wiped away without too much effort. So, the algae is now "gone" but I am sure that spores and other areas that I cannot see are still in there. So now, I am faced with getting my tank right so that...

    Help identify this growth

Also, for more info, I dose pps pro with potassium-phosphate separate from nitrates. Not currently dosing nitrates, but maybe I need to based on today's testing? I use flourish comp once weekly for micros. I dose metricide 14 daily; I am building up slowly due to sensitive fish (habrosus)...
