Everything Tests 0, 3 year old tank

Thanks Stingray, I wasn't super a super nut about testing, I would use test strips once a week, just to make sure something didn't blowup, and then I would use my test kit monthly to get good readings. I pretty much had the water and filter changes under control. My tap water was perfect for...

Everything Tests 0, 3 year old tank

I've searched for this but I'm not sure I found the right answer. I have a 20 Gal GoldFish tank, 3 years old. Live plants, 1 goldfish, 2 small plecos. I've always been careful to do regular water changes and rotate my media as not to interrupt the bio filter. I was away for a longer period of...

I don't remember if you mentioned what size tank you are using this on. I would recommend going with the AC30, for the little bit more in price you will get better flow rate and a larger basket for materials both equal faster cleaning and longer times between changes. I'm am in now way an...

The plastic frame is supposed to be the bio media, I would think, you would need a lot more surface space with plastic. It looks like you should be able to get some bio-material and fit it between the frame and filter.

I know this is going back a few posts, but I wanted to see if there was any differences between the two branded Aquaclears. I don't own the Aquaclear branded filter. I have the Fluval Branded Aquclear. From what it looks like,as far a build, they are the same. It is really interesting...

Nice! From looking at the bottom picture, it looks like you have a bio-wheel and an Aqueon in the larger; and in the smaller it looks like an Aqueon and an AquaClear. (did I get it right?) Those Aqueons don't seem too bad, don't know about longevity. but they have a little room to improve the...

I got around to taking some better pictures with a good camera of my tank. Here is what the AC 30 does for me: Here is looking through the length of the tank:

I had a Top Fin on my 10 Gal, that did a good job, there was enough room that I could add a little more floss material, and bio-material. never had a problem with the pump, it was quiet, and cycled the water well. the down side was that it was limited to few filter options. I used the Tetra...

Well, I guess I stepped in that one:oops: Sorry to jump in, but now I feel I must defend my last post. First, I just wanted to lighten up what was becoming a heated discussion. I agree with you, discussion is how we learn. However, HEATED discussions are meant to belittle and insult the other...

Wow, getting a little hot in here. The Thread was started to help a new hobbyist move along with his tank. Lets take it down a notch and try to voice our opinions without insulting others. It's all good and friendly here :flowers: As you can see, water clarity can be a touchy subject, and...

I tried the Purigen in place of my charcoal and it didn't really do anything for me, except slow my flow rate down. I understand the chemistry and know that Charcoal isn't necessary. My tank is biologically sound. For me, I see a difference in the clarity and less smell when I use charcoal...

Here is an older picture of the filter from the top. The big change is I added the filter floss media to the exposed side of the basket to make sure all the water at least gets particle filtered. if you look at the intake chamber there is a small hole at the bottom that will allow water to come...

    DIY Powerhead / Filter

I have a 20 Gal tank I got from PetSmart on sale. It was their Great choice brand 20 Gal starter set, which came with a cheap internal filter and hood/light kit. I got it because the tank and hood seemed as good as any other brand they had in stock and it was only about $40.00 so everything...

There is a lot of opinions on this site about hob's. It's worth doing a search and reading up. I think you will find the majority are Fluval fans. They convinced me to get the Fluval AC30. With some slight adjustments it is a great filter. I don't have experience with the c series, but...

    Water test kits? How to?

I see that you are in York, PA. I'm from Central, PA also, with all the farms in this area, your water is bound to be screwed up from run off, especially if it is well water. If you do have well water, I would have it professionally checked for your health, there can be much worse things than...

    HOB filter recommendation

nice tank, I like the aquascape. Paul1792, good points. If it weren't for these forums and others having the same problem with the AC, I wouldn't have thought to use the floss. I probably would have returned the AC and ordered the C40. I know those who have the C series, love them. I can...
