I don't think it would help cure the dropsy, but in my experience, it helped my betta perk up and regain his strength. But of course, there is not guarantee it would even do that for your betta since he has already been pretty ill for a few days.

The only time I have ever heard of a plant harming a betta is when it is too sharp and cuts or snags the bettas delicate fins. Though at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be something as unexpected as that.

I may sound paranoid, but I think there has been something going around with the bettas at the pet stores.
